Why do some players complain about "toxicity" in PVP?

Like, I feel like the word and idea itself has turned into “you attacked me? toxic!!! remove pvp!!!”
I literally don’t get why a part of the game riles up so many people, I understand if you’ve been ganked while having like 1000 chests on your ship but that’s a minor fraction of cases, its usually just people crying about having around 300 galleons taken.

idk

js calling anything bait nowadays :broken_heart:

It does really feel like it though

cuz, pvp is very toxic in this game. its simple to understand

its not even just with PVE players, pvp players are toxic amongst themselves with giant egos

nice generalization

also obligatory

didnt specify the amount, takes logic to understand the demographic im talking about

now in order to answer your question, it’s because pvpers (gankers specifically) are generally toxic. hope this helps!

what impact does it make in the grand scheme of things, the worst people to come out of this game werent pvp devoted + toxicity’s being treated like an atrocity

do you mean the 5% that actually say something after they kill you? or the other party claiming toxicity after they get greened by someone that puts work into that part of the game

Just found out about the existence of a loud majority amongst a community ?

Because some people don’t like having their experience rudely interrupted. That’s all there is to it.
It’s not particularly enjoyable to have whatever you’re doing interrupted by someone solely focused on gaining more player kills (most people who gank low renown randoms just want PKs). If they’re a bounty player, they’re also arrested - further disrupting their experience. Potentially 5-7 minutes wasted if they have a higher bounty (which can occur through normal gameplay, not saying the hunt wouldnt be justified in that case, high renown is a risk) - nobody wants that. Time being wasted isn’t enjoyable.

The best way to describe it is through an interaction I had before I got into PvP.
I was fishing in the south of Sameria, minding my own business. A conjurer (don’t remember what kind) come from the north and began attacking me. I ran for a minute before saying something along the lines of “i dont wanna fight”. They responded with a simple “but I do” and continued hunting me. I got arrested and executed, further wasting my time.

Events like this are common, that’s why PvE players are likely to make the generalization that PvPers are toxic. The ones they’ve met are - the only interactions they’ve had with PvPers have been gankers who disrupt their experience and potentially taunt you after they kill you.

That’s why people whine about toxcicity from PvPers - they only see the bad part of PvP.

also, if you get ganked, there are few gankers polite enough to give you back your galleons, which can be a decently large loss to people who don’t have a ton

Yeah, i just LOVE getting hunted the moment i join the server. I LOVE when they sink my ship have me stuck 4kstuds to the nearest shipwright.
They’re such a whole some part of the communitee Silly mefor hating them🤗 (i don’t mean all pvpers, only those)

thats another thing, if you’re in a clan, if you have bounty you should expect player interactions such as being ganked, you dont immediately label it as toxicity. also running would be more of a waste of time, as being combat tagged voids agility, it’s just a petty move considering you dont lose much and you decide to waste both parties times. this actually happens alot, people just run and monkey around to spite the fact theyre being ganked

you lose them proportionate to how much you have, if you’re broke you’ll lose a small amount or none

If you’re wondering why people are dismissing this as pure bait, it’s because there was a thread exactly like this one months ago, but with a more accusatory title that generalized that part of the playerbase (“Why do PvE players always victimize themselves?”). Chaos ensued, the user who made that thread said people couldn’t read or something like that and how toxic the thread had become (even though the title was basically asking for it), marked that as the solution, and then anon’d. This was during the height of PvE/PvP tensions by the way, with Agility’s then-canceled removal and the announcement of a PvP toggle.

tl;dr Thread like this but worse was a thing months ago, user who made it was more than likely seeking attention IMO.

Now to answer your question, I’d say it’s because there’s currently no good way to avoid PvP, despite PvE being Vetex’s target demographic. In an old rant of his, he said that if it wouldn’t kill the game, he’d actually remove PvP entirely. PvP is what keeps a lot of people coming back to the game, so without it, the playercount would be more like 300 a day.

There’s also the small-ish amount of toxic, arrogant-as-shit PvPers who spam “ez” or “stick to PvE” after every win; they make my ego look like a kitten in comparison. Those types of PvP players are also the type to go all guns a-blazin’ and shoot at literally anyone they see; combine those with people who have no clue what they’re doing in a PvP scenario, and you have PvE players who think that most, if not all, PvP players are the reason why we can’t have nice things at the very best.
