Being uber-defensive would probably result in difficulties with maintaining relationships rather than starting them. Being defensive is a reaction not an action. Of course itās more complicated than this but the complexity is also why you canāt make such a claim.
I think he tends to be a bit more receptive to criticism that seems to demonstrate more understanding than it does combativeness.

the whole reason I joined this thread at all was to tell you that the examples you have of vetex being a ādictatorā were incredibly bad and that the hate posts that these people vomited were not and never will be the solution to this disconnect.
I mean honestly vetex said as much himself, people like fridge are a big part of why he doesnāt want to interact with the community.
defending them and saying that banning them was unreasonable only hurts everything else you have to say, because frankly it never should have come to vetex banning atleast fridge to begin with, man should have been gone long ago.

From what I can tell, the way he āhandlesā actual criticism seems to be completely ignoring it.
Atleast that seems to be the case here.
The way he handles being mocked and insulted is giving a long suspension and then saying things that were, in most cases, better left unsaid.
Part of this is caused be neither side being able to understand each otherās position well enough.
Vetex gets a huge amount of hate, which is unfortunately what a lot of game developers go through. With that much negativity, it becomes hard to draw the line between what is actual criticism and what is someone complaining. Since members of the community donāt share this experience, itās difficult for them to be able to judge what things vetex will perceive as needlessly complaining.
On the other hand, vetex doesnāt really know the community on an individual level. He knows roughly what people are happy and unhappy with but one singular person voicing their own opinions is less likely to be considered by him. He isnāt going to be aware of people quietly agreeing with someone so it might give him a false impression of what the community actually wants. It means also that most of the opinions he hears from people will be negative ones, since they are always the loudest.
Vetex having a proper relationship with the community would help, but the hard part is that the only interactions he has is negative ones. This means that in order to do that he will have to face even more hate than he normally gets, which isnāt something that anyone would willingly go through unless they were absolutely sure if would produce a positive result.

Of all the people to prop up as a martyr, you choose that fridge guy? I donāt know what the other guy did, but considering your other choice, I can take a guess at his character.
Why is there a ādonāt ping Vetexā rule? Because if there wasnāt, heād be flooded with pings, half of which would be some inane half-baked nonsense from well-meaning armchair devs, and the other half of which would be some inane deliberate nonsense from trolls like those you claim have been wronged.
I remember seeing evidence of some behavior from Vetex in some google doc in another thread that I donāt like, and based on that, I think he needs to learn to let the insults slung at him just slide off. Throwing vitriol back doesnāt help anyone, and just makes you look like a crap-throwing chimp.
I do not think that constant communication is needed, especially if one isnāt good at communication, it can be more detrimental. You say something that you think is right, and suddenly itās taken the wrong way and used against you. That bit I saw about Hectate Essence being āmiserableā would have went over better if he had phrased it differently, said it was meant to have more friction compared to other character stats, I think. But why consider other ways to look at it, when we can assume the worst to try and get the forums to mutiny against the evil dictator that has ruined our beloved game?
Hereās the relationship: Vetex makes the game, we play the game, we provide feedback on the game, Vetex takes the feedback into consideration.
And to those that say he doesnāt listen to feedback/criticism, what proof do you have, other than āhe didnāt make the changes I wanted/he disagreed with what I think the direction of the game should beā?
