Why I (still) don't like the few 3rd weapon skills change in Dark Sea

“Ohh Glitching are you bitching about this change AGAIN?” Stfu and let me hate more efficiently rn

This poll sucked ass and I don’t see nearly enough people talking about it

this poll cemented weapons this update being one of the worse areas this update both with warrior and with the hybrids.

How this affects Warriors

Now, with how limited warriors are with skills in a set, the addition of more skills would be a good idea, and normally I would be okay with this. The problem I have, however, is that this is 2-4 third weapon skills, which is way too small and ends up affecting build variety in Warriors.

I know I have bitched about warriors getting less variety because of this, but let me explain further: Weapons overall have the MOST variety of all builds. The ability to switch out a weapon for another to easily change your moveset on the fly is incredible compared to the other builds which have to find skills and replace others to change theirs. However, warrior has been limited to only a few weapons that are good, which hardly helps it at all since there’s few things for it to switch between with few skills.

2-4 third weapon skills doesn’t help this problem, however. In fact, it only highlights it more, because making only a few available will just incentivize picking those with 3rd skills, since otherwise you are only limiting yourself. Here’s examples I’ve already given of how this could work out given each amount of skills added, assuming the skills are good:

2 third weapon skills: takes up two slots and some random third weapon (likely to be vindicator if anything), less variety overall.
3 third weapon skills: takes up all three slots, less variety.
4 third weapon skills: 4 weapons swapped out, less variety overall.

Even not considering variety, this is still assuming that the third skills are good. There’s no knowing what they’ll do, how useful they’d be in combination with other skills, or if after all the balancing it’ll go through from testers if it’ll be good afterwards.

How this affects Hybrids

This change 100% hits weapon hybrids the MOST. Hybrids suffer from a similar problem from warriors where they use only a few weapons in rotation, usually kai sabre/scims (which are practically the same weapons still), greenwish staff, and either ptd or greatsword from what I’ve seen, with an honorable mention to silent claws, which aren’t usable at all without its E (gee, thanks roblox).

Rare weapons had a chance to touch on this and add new builds to use for hybrids, especially with the possibilities for more weapons with status effects, however because of third weapon skills being voted on, they get nothing for weapons.

“But what about flying phoenix? Ravenna sword gets i-”

It’s other skills are fucking useless. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, tiger rush sucks and is only going to be worse now that it can’t be used as some extra mobility option cuz of the nerf to distance on grabs when not looking in the direction of a player, and whirlwind is just a worse version of Greatsword’s AoE attack. You will have a HARD time convincing me that one skill can save a weapon with a shitty grab and an outclassed AoE attack.

This therefore leaves it instead as weapon hybrids getting a shitty butter knife with half of what the other builds got.

“But they already have so much to work with!”

So does warlock, which has BOTH Magic and Strength stats with imbuements, yet it gets both sides to this update, while conj and warlord get half of what its getting and a shitty bronze knife. Not to mention, Knight builds get ZERO new things that are good in their ONLY WAY TO ATTACK IN GAME AT THE MOMENT, other than a dodge that the other vitality builds get too.

“Why not wait for nimbus sea? Surely you can get the third weapon skills then as a hybrid?”

Nope. Vetex said the level cap would be increased to 135, which means the 60% cap is at 162. Not only does this not get you any third weapon skills, this ALSO doesn’t let you get to use anything new in weapons with ANY of them.

Unless Vetex adds rare weapons in this update or miraculously lowers the 3rd skill requirement by 10 points, you get nothing new and you either have to do a build where you keep 150 magic, or you have to have an awkward build of 162 in your other attacking stat to get the rare skill that pures already had with 108 in your weapons which makes you limited to old weapons only like you’re a fucking savant.

Overall, weapon hybrids lose the most from weapons in this update because of third skills, while warrior gains something that puts a tiny band-aid on one of its problems while another problem isn’t fixed.

Why do I bother?

I at LEAST hope that maybe some changes can happen. I don’t see why rare weapons and 3rd weapon skills had to be exclusive from each other this update when adding both of them would benefit all weapon builds this update. Other than that, I hope to convince some people that this isn’t really a good idea for weapons this update, because otherwise weapons are stuck with the same problems they had, with warriors getting a band-aid over it while hybrids get thrown a stick.

How’s this for dense jackass

i guess all we can do now is hope that dark sea exclusive weapons get added later

afaik the ravenna sword is still a common, average weapon
no guarantee that flying phoenix would be good, either

vindicator was also considered meta as far back as release, despite only having access to one skill

while it does give more options, there’s no guarantee that those options would necessarily be better

They will be add in the nimbus sea update

IKR what were the 7000 people who voted smoking? I WANT DARK SEA WEAPONS NOW!

The sweats won.

Let’s go take them to the park, I’m sure they’ll make great friends with the grass there.

As far back as having one skill.
I don’t want to imagine it with a third skill, here’s to hoping it doesn’t get picked to get a third skill.

honestly i hope not, i want viarity in weapons, ik people like to cry about their inability to parry one class, but cmon, 80% of warriors are the same, its boring

Haha, this doesn’t affect me at all, as I am a 150 vit 100 wep knight. But y’know, knight never gets anything, especially my variety of knight.

it never gets spirit weapons

For real, I don’t know why it’s taking so long to getting to 4 entire classes actually getting anything. Because even ignoring the lack of spirit weapons, we still haven’t gotten pretty much anything except eventually a dodge reflex. Which will be useful, but it doesn’t really outweigh everything else all the other classes and their own dodge reflexes.

Huhhh
You all know that we’ll get everything later, right?
Like I saw somewhere that Vetex will add a bit of content for the Dark Sea every update, so we’ll probably get Rare Weapons AND Dark Sea rare weapons.

We’re not getting more rare weapons until after nimbus sea, and third weapon skills just aren’t available in the nimbus sea update for hybrids I’ve been over this

I swear to god eclipse where the fuck are you getting “more skills = less variety” like at least keep your argument consistent because adding more rare weapons would do the exact same thing, except worse because they would have higher stats than other weapons, thus adding another reason to use them over other option.

Like I get that you want a cool looking weapon but like please man the third weapon skills are bound to be more different than just a rare weapon

2-4 more skills means only these few weapons become better, therefore these few weapons are the main used ones. I didn’t say more skills = less variety, I said the LIMITED amount of weapons make builds become less varied.

If the amount of weapon types that got third skills was 6-7 I wouldn’t be making this argument because that means there will be more differences between builds.

Rare weapons wouldn’t do this because by default they’re more things to make weapon builds with overall, while warriors keep the same problem of being limited to only the few weapons that are good, now it’s just more obvious because it’s the ones that have the third weapon skills
