Hades currently seems to be one of the “big bads” of the au. with him controlling durza and overall seeming to be just malicious. but why? hades in greek mythology is by all regards one of the least evil gods, he just presides over where people go when they die. id assume vetex has at least a decent understanding of greek mythology, so i dont think its just “death = evil therefore underworld god bad” so what event made hades so malicious?
Disney movie blue fire man meann
Vetex made AU when he was like 13 or 15
He didnt do anything wrong
and he clearly isn’t against drastically changing the lore when he realizes something is stupid, I’d think if it was just “haha evil man cuz death” he’d have fixed it by now
Well, spirit energy was originally never a thing, as I recall, external curses were still magic (and not called experimental), and I think all curse users blew up upon sinking in the sea in a bigger or smaller explosion, depending on their power
There were also 5 grand fire curses but Darkflame was retconned because Vetex realised how stupid it would is that Darkflame can easily overpower Promethean fire by burning down a village
Technically speaking, Thanatos is Death, and Hades is just the ruler of the Underworld. So he’s in charge of keeping the Titans in Tartarus.
yes I’m aware, I mean “evil cuz he’s associated with death”
Vetex writing, he literally made a character named "murder’ in German and gave them the death curse.
Id assume even vetex understands making the god of the underworld the big bad is super generic
Clearly not because he also made Iris entirely red with fire powers and her only defining personality trait is “I’m angry and I hate ravenna”
A Morden of Crows
you forgot being fatherless
also maybe the war seas just cares about fashion and color coordinates with their magic (dripcane odyssey)
tbf, mages are pretty rare, it isnt unexpected for mages to match their clothings with their magic aka their most unique trait
real ones use the color wheel to find colors that thematically look nice but aren’t just clothes versions of their magics/FS
realer ones dont have any good looking armor that matches their magic so they are forced to color code themselves
Actually the real ones are just people that turn vanity off and become hideous armor monsters from all the stat-giving stuff they’re wearing
Honestly the “your magic reflects your personality” part is soooooooo boring
People change over the years, does that mean their magic changes too? Or did you have an edgy phase but then turned out really social and stuff but still have shadow magic for the rest of your life?
Honestly I’d be much happier reading about extremely violent, murderous and depressive light magic user and a nice, caring and social shadow magic user
you get your magic when you are like 5, and also I think your “personality” will reflect your magic regardless. its like zodiacs but with chaos
So the obvious doylist answer, is Vetex is just seeing god of the dead and assuming the worst.
However, this is a topic I’ve discussed a lot with others on the forum, and I think there’s an interesting watsonian rason for Hades being an antagonist.
Yes the word choice is intentional, as Hades despite his association with an actual villain Acheron/Durza, is an antagonist.
So the way I see the War of the Gods was a messy brutal affair that left nearly all the Olympians dead. This obviously enrages Hades, who like many of the Olympians didn’t want humanity to have magic in the first place. Now his fears are justified.
So in his anger he gives Durza a curse that could if used correctly gather all magic into a single person that Hades can then trap in the underworld. Not the most thought out plan, but he’s angry and grieving so not exactly in a right state of mind for grand and intricate plans.
So with how poorly thought out this plan is it obviously goes awry. Acheron becomes too powerful for Hades to have any influence over and begins his world conquering ambitions.
Meanwhile Hades hides in the underworld basically just waiting until this whole mess blows over.
It’s in this state that the Peacekeeper finds him. Tired and anguished from what he’s done to the world, his anger at humanity long having burned out. Longing for nothing more than to see his kin again and to see the world healed in some way, he teaches the PK how to destroy curses and let’s PK kill him.
