Why is the AO Forums a rather toxic community

You’ve really put your maturity and respectability on display by ignoring a message tailor-made for people like you to hear, and bragging about it.

so true my king, keep cooking :crown:

Stock, you’ve made mistakes. Everyone has and will, you are human. I don’t like being against you. You can be nice, fun, and I can enjoy your responses on topics. I don’t like you being the punching bag of the forum. I feel like you hardly deserve that.

Yes, people are mean. I wish they weren’t, and we both know I hardly support those actions.

We can be better, people. I’ve always said that, I’ll say it again: we can be better.

Welcome to the internet
Honestly, this is in my opinion how you should expect the internet to be

So why perpetuate that? You don’t have to be a saint but what’s the point in being an asshat?

bec pvp

Funny you mention that, somebody decided to just absolutely slam me for free renown, right after we broke some terrain together, beat a wanted NPC, and he asked me for a trade.

have I been summoned? What am I reacting to?

Because some people on the internet take joy in hurting others
Yes, shocking I know, but such is the way of society

Being kind costs nothing, but being rude also costs nothing y’know?
Some people just don’t ‘feel’ empathy and thus they insult others for their personal benefit

stock you should
1: “quit”
2: make an alt
3: listen to advice from the stocksounds advice thread

What stocksounds advice thread? There is no stocksounds advice thread on the forums.

I’m pretty sure making an alt after anonning is allowed actually

Most forums share the same fate—there is a select identity that comes to be expected out of the members. It’s a certain presence that slowly pushes anyone out who doesn’t conform to that. Normally, that identity is fluid and soft. Exceptions are made, and the diversity is great enough to keep the majority open.

Eventually, though, the identity hardens. Users slightly against that identity are pushed into lessened or ceased activity. As an example, you can see this with most artists—they generally stay to their own topics and the creations of others. They don’t fit into the usual user mold of the forum. That combined with the way moderately popular artists are treated leads to them being inactive.

Put plainly, Stock, your recent activity doesn’t warrant any such rudeness or discrimination. It happens nonetheless due to your preexisting reputation. I wish this wasn’t the case, because barring a few grievances, you’re actually fairly tame. I like reading your worldbuilding stuff, and think you deserve a clean slate.

Not sure how to word this, but your reputation as someone who is vulnerable to derailing topics has been set in stone by consistent occurences of that behavior. People make fun of you because they know you’ll fall into that routine time and time again. You’ve become a punching bag, and it’ll stay that way with persistent behavior. I’m not sure how to change that perception of you, exactly, but my only ideas for that are taking a full break from AO media (forums, wiki, etc.) or forcing yourself to change your ways.

To keep it real, you seem like you won’t do either of those things. When you were suspended, you went to scream into the void that is the wiki instead of taking the time to reflect on what got you sus’d in the first place, which was a pretty big no-no to say the least. If you want people to see you positively, you need to put in the work. You need to put in the same amount of effort that you’d put into a hard test, or a project worth 50% of your grade.

Some people will put you down for it, some may actively sabotage you. Those aren’t the issue though; the issue is making people think that you’ve actively grown as a person.

It really wasn’t like that. I know it was an easy a assumption but it wasn’t like that.

What was it like then?
