Itā€™s a good example, you can lose your stuff to random dark sea RNG so itā€™s an accurate example.

And the concept is really easily explainable it doesnā€™t need a super advanced example to still be understood.

If the entirety of the 1st sea was a tutorial then it would be much smaller, much simpler, and it wouldnā€™t even be the only sea there was for a year.

And for all I know you could probably be right, but AO does a poor job conveying that.

Ermmm, pve can be either environment or entity (npcs etc.). Examples of things we can earn in the civilization buildings that could be used for pve would be golden petals for ds, aeroplasts as a pve playerā€™s best friend in getting away from pvpheads, clearstones which is used for obvious reasons, bleeding pots to farm shark fins, thereā€™s a lot more but you get the idea.

Of course, pve players arenā€™t the only ones benefitting here since pvpheads can farm reagents that synergizes with their magic/weapon.

You might have the wrong idea about pve since itā€™s not all about fighting npcs/bosses per se.

Thereā€™s this thing called ā€œplaying with friendsā€

Iā€™ve see a few PvE clans, they do in fact exist

Iā€™m pretty sure clans are also getting separated by infamy as well so they donā€™t have to worry about getting screwed by bigger clans.

coming fresh off a hour and half in the dark sea being lost due to internet going out, this suggestion is sick and why are yā€™all talking about pve clans in the fishing suggestion

anyways, dredge is a game I played non stop until I had every achievement.

arcane odyssey is a game I actively avoid fishing in because itā€™s too mind numbingly boring and time consuming with what feels like no rewards usually. clearly something needs to change.

Whether or not itā€™s pandering to simulator players isnā€™t the point.

The point is that everyone has a different perspective on how fun a feature is. So maybe itā€™s just that fishing isnā€™t for you.

I could not possibly give less of a shit if simulator players like AO fishing, if anything thatā€™s even more of a reason to overhaul it.
If weā€™re attracting simulator players then the game is doing something very very wrong.

AO fishing sucks, other games have great fishing mechanics.
Why canā€™t AO have great fishing mechanics?

Problem with that is both are different genres ngl, one game can focus on the fishing experience while the other has to focus on multiple things as an mmorpg.

We have a ship, a sea, and fishing villages, thatā€™s all you need to set it up as worldbuilding.

I only brought up simulator players as a specific demographic in response to you saying that fishing is mind numbing as an objective fact. There are probably a bajillion people who like fishing for some reason Iā€™ve never even heard of. Itā€™s not like weā€™re bringing in simulator players in anyways due to the rest of the game.

Fishing is meant to be simple and thatā€™s just how some things are, not everything needs to be reworked into a highly advanced system.

If you have ideas to help fix fishing, then Iā€™m down to hear them, but donā€™t just sit there and pretend its good where it is because its very very obviously not.

I mean yeah but at best weā€™ll get basic stuff for minor features since the difference with ao is that as an mmorpg, features has to fight with other planned features.

Same reason why digging up treasure charts sucks right now as well since itā€™s made very basic to focus on other features. Although Vetex planned some sort of progression for digging and fishing, dunno how it would turn out.

Having a simplistic game system isnā€™t pandering to people who play simplistic games. In the next few sentences I said that there are people who enjoy it for some reason who arenā€™t simulator players.

I donā€™t see a single other person aside from you actually defending AOā€™s fishing ā€œmechanicā€.
