I kinda interpreted it more as something that just explained how the lesser lost, lost, and ancient magics came to be something that humans could do, but kinda got used up in the past to the point where itâd be kinda unreasonable for the MC to find one, or just that the MC wouldnât actually need one. Basically hecate shards were used to create all the other magic types that would be considered new compared to the previous amount of just 7 humanity had before. I donât really see any reason as to why a hecate shard couldnât give someone flare even if someone else already got it first. Even if it is just a gameplay mechanic itâd still be really odd for it to work by giving us preexisting lost and ancient magics if it really could only create new magics. Like you said thatâs a weird distinction to make. I really do think he only means ânewâ in the context of their use in the lore doc where they were used to create what were at the time new magic types for humanity.

Does anyone else have any clue what this means? Like this feels like a pretty unclear answer. I think it means that after utilizing and getting experience with their magic once they gain a pretty complete understanding of their magic they come to and epiphany or something, kinda like Enizor when he unlocked his magic, which causes their magic to mutate? Iâm not entirely sure though.
Also new bear models and textures.
Not sure if this was already a thing and then got added later after the most recent patreon sneaks, or if the sneaks the patrons have seen are now no longer what bears actually look like.

Since thatâs how I understand learning a second magic basically works in lore too. You get so good at magic that you learn how to manipulate energy in a different way to create a different element. Then you eventually get so good at it you figure out how to fine tune the magic. Of course different people think different things and different ideas come naturally to different people.
Vetex has confirmed in patreon that mage awakenings are canon. So they do âawakenâ for their second magic rather than just learning it(though I imagine learning is part of the process of awakening as it was for the MC with the meditating and Poseidon bestowing a bit of knowledge onto them).
That aside though I do get what youâre saying. Iâm not entirely sure if itâs right though cause the ability to mutate is passed down through bloodlines of people who originally found hecate shards and used them to mutate their magics, their bloodlines being so widespread among the diminished human population that most mages can mutate, so itâs doesnât seem like itâs just a matter of learning to fine tune your magic. If it was just that the bloodline stuff doesnât seem like itâd be necessary. Honestly the hecate shard stuff to discover the first magics doesnât seem necessary anymore either if it works like that.
Forgets both Shale Reef and Forest of Masts, while making a baseless assumption that this new island will have spires.

Unrelated to the patch notes (TheFollest should make a topic about vetex lore drops)
not necessarily an epiphany, simply a better understanding or an attempt at increasing a quality of it. I like to think of it as finding a new way to make use of your muscles/to contract only a specific muscle, and considering vetexâs hobby, it might just be the same as his idea.
Iâm pretty sure that the explanation for the âsudden mutationâ is just awakening a magic from his bloodline , as stated in the lore doc.
The only reason Iâve been posting them here is cause itâs still new info which even if this thread focuses on patch notes it being new info makes it kinda relevant. I might still make a thread for Vetex lore drops though that is a good idea though.
