Hecate Essence Rant and a Call for Answers Regarding it

yeah, the problem with hecate is that it spawns were we arent really supposed to sail to yet, so you really cant come across it through normal gameplay unless you’re a madman. Vetex could just make the essence spawn at i3 too so the average player can find it on an average dark sea expedition, but considering that he didnt even wanted for us to be able to change magics in the first place I doubt that would happen.

It does, Far reaches is i3 and beyond.

The problem is that island get exponentially larger each insanity range so by i3 they’re already larger than mount Othrys.

honestly I don’t think it’s really good for the game to have islands that big in the dark sea because it’s so large you can’t carry dark sealed chests back

I though the far reaches was i4 and i5

I did too until I went out to i3 for siren rocks and it said “The Far Reaches”

I had seen a suggestion to make a text appear to indicate that you’re close to a essence, a really good suggestion, vetex should implement that fr.

There will probably be more things added to dark sea islands in the future… I hope…

Hopefully it would be a feature with sensing

Wait dont most RPG games prioritise lore/story over gameplay anyway (its literally called ROLEPLAYING game for a reason)

Prioritising one thing doesnt mean (or at least doesnt have to) making another thing horrible/straightup torture tho. Lorewise we arent even supposed to enter the dark sea at all lol so lets just remove one of most important updates in ao’s lifetime atp :skull:

I think we do ONCE for the enizor quest

I have yet to see that quest being tied to lore instead of just gameplay to get a stronger captain, but ig thats possible. Still tho, even if it is tied to the lore i doubt we would be going into the dark sea before at least our second awakening

I don’t necessarily think hectate essence is immersive but it does help to make magic actually feel permanent. I don’t think you should be able to easily change your files magic.

However that is not to say I fully like the method now. I think someone already said it here but I wish it was a more linear thing that you could work towards over time because it’s hard for a lot of people to take 5 hours out of their day to play games for.

That is also not to say that I do not think the current hectates essence method can’t be optimized

I agree wuth you conpletely, I like hecate essence as a concept and I want to see it improved, not removed or replaced.

Yea, not being able to see anything in there is definitely a big part of why the search sucks.

Last time I went to insanity 3 I rammed into like 2 islands because I couldn’t see anything

Well now that I’m not discussing this at 2 AM, I can definitely say this much. Let’s just give people a free magic reset like we give people a free stat reset. Shouldn’t affect things too much, and it lets you try something new with a magic build after, hopefully, researching things more.

the issue is is that its a grind that has no definitive progress - you could grind for 5 hours and come back with absolutely nothing, and its even worse because you have to do it within a single play session, it means that you either grind for hours straight or give up midway through and nullify all the time youve already spent

A good chunk of that time is just sailing to the Far Reaches + sailing from island to island. Sensing would 100% be a solution for reducing the time it takes to search an island for Hecate essence specifically. I imagine the essence of the God of Magic should be able to be sensed by mages and magic hybrids.

“itll be fixed in 7 months” doesnt make it not a problem now
