“Though this is a mission, this is more of a test run. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to hold your hands while on this trip as I have important business to attend to. In my place, Wanda will go with you. Don’t do anything harsh, this is more of a taste of what’s to come.” It had been two weeks since the first division started their training. Whenever Mr. Almondo was gone, specialists took his place to train the new subjects. While they were in the middle of training, both the second and third divisions were officially created. Each division had very strong candidates of what was to come.
Four of the new Division 1 villains had all gathered up in Mr. Almondo’s office. They were all about to fly off to New York City and start slightly ravaging a small street corner. The purpose of the trip was to spread fear and influence on what the DVP could do. Seeing as training was still in progress, Mr. Almondo chose the candidates who were starting to learn fast on what it meant to be a villain.
“Mr. Almondo, do you know when we’ll be able to meet the other divisions? I would like to know what their powers are like.” One of the subjects asked.
“Don’t worry about them, the time will start soon enough. Currently, you stay in your own lane and do as you’re told.” Almondo then excused the group from his office with a hand gesture. Wanda escorted them all out and shut the door behind her.
“Wow, so this is New York! I’ve always wondered what The Big Apple was like!” Amelia started to skip around, eye gazing on all of the big, tall skyscrapers. The group had just arrived and decided to take a detour since most had never seen the city before. The sun shone all above the buildings, shining brightly against the reflective glass walls.
“Don’t get too carried away. We’ll only be here for a bit.” Ironically, Kevin Laury, the subject with destructive ice powers, had tons of merchandise on himself. He wore big, neon glasses, a purple top hat with the words ‘I Luv New York,’ and even a shirt with the Empire State Building on it.
“You seem to be the only one interested in all that New York stuff. What’s the big appeal anyway?”
“Well, Amelia, learn to live a little! Life is short, so you gotta make the most of it.”
“How inspiring.” The third subject, Orion Sugar, blended in with the crowd quite well. He usually wore basic clothing, so he stood out from the rest of the group when it came to attire. Additionally, Orion was eating a fresh hotdog from a street vendor. Stuffed in the face, Orion asked, “What do you have to say about this, Nico?”
“…” Nico is very reserved and doesn’t say much. His head is normally slightly faced down when he’s with other people, and doesn’t like to interact at most times. Due to his personality, he is very observant to the world around him and has a keen eye when it comes to danger.
“Don’t worry about my buddy, Nico, here. He’s just a bit… shy. We’ve been friends for a long time.” Kevin became surprised by his comment, further remembering the day of their first training.
“Oh, I know who you guys are. You both were the ones to pair up during our fight training. The boss man must’ve really taken a liking to the both of you.”
“Mr. Laury, do not disrespect the head of the DVP by calling him ‘boss man.’ We’ve had enough of our trip anyways, let’s get to what we came here to do.”
“Wow, Wanda. Didn’t know you were that feisty.” Wanda then took a mean glance towards Kevin; untangling him from his usual happy mood. The group then went off into a subway station. Wanda had scanned a special card onto a scanner, granting the five of them access to catch a ride. Wanda and Amelia sat next to each other on the subway train, while the rest of the group sat on the exact opposite end. Nico began to look around, becoming grim just by the sight of the train. Trash was littered all over the floor and piles of dirty clothing had gathered underneath multiple seats. A rat had even crawled underneath their feet, roaming about for food.
“Nobody told me how dirty the subways were. I thought New York was some sort of special haven?” Orion asked.
“All things have a center core that cannot be seen easily just by taking a glance. In reality, this is New York’s core; littered with garbage and hopeless dreams. People come here all the time as some sort of tourist attraction, when the real sights of New York are not wished to be seen due to how revolting they are.” Wanda replied. She had then opened up a book from her purse and began reading it. She crossed her legs over so that she would be in a more comfortable position.
Soon, the train had stopped again for what felt like a whole hour. “This is our stop.” Everyone in the group went over to follow Wanda out. When leaving the subway, the team had arrived in a dirty-looking neighborhood made up of bricked homes and businesses. There was a slight haze in the sky due to the buildings emitting dark gray gas.
“It’s time to get the party started!” Amelia then began to jump up in joy.
