Magic change cost

Stand ready for my yap, forumer.

didn’t even think of silksong defo equal to a magic change

Yeah the comparison does show the price is pretty absurd. I get where vetex is coming from, as petty as it is, but he definitely should cut the price down.

I think cutting it in half would be better for him keeping his vision of magic being more limited while making it less absurd than before. 1,000 is still enough to discourage switching magics a lot, but it’s roughly $10 compared to $20, meaning you get two instead if you do buy 2,000 robux worth.

Though this is also a band aid fix compared to just improving the magic change function in general. I think a challenging questline would be more fun for people who want to change magics to see other options and less eye gouging for people who just want meta.

don’t worry guys, it’s just inflation

Just to be clear I don’t hate vetex in anyway, I just think it’s a scam.

That’s bad reasoning then + plus it doesn’t help that most of his staff are supporting it and saying that it’s a justified price instead of giving that reasoning. if anything your just gonna make the community think it’s a lie cuz that’s how it seems to me.

Im not 100% on this but iirc the balance team tried to get Vetex to make the magic change easier to get cuz it’s tedious and if I’m correct despite the feedback and complaining of many, no real positive or effective changes were done.

The lack of care for feedback and the addition of gamepass as well really just makes it a bad look.

Let’s assume this wasn’t done in bad practice but in a bad decision. If this changes goes thru and plays the way it’s set up to work then it simply transforms into a bad practice even if unintentional and i don’t think It’s fair to just dismiss the effect just because it’s an accident.

I didn’t disregard his argument, I did respond to it below that. If I disregarded it then that would have been the only thing I said.

I do agree that most people use the bias thing like a full argument, but I don’t think that’s what I did.

I was just tryna explain the justification point, the example was just used to say that wrong is wrong. It wasn’t supposed to be a 1:1 example.

That’s just looking at it optimistically, the lack of communication or any real answer to common problems puts a bad look on the team.

One way or the other, if nothing is done about it then it turns into a bad practice either way, even if unintentional.

The lack of communication is a mistake on the team’s end and at some point you can’t blame the community for making assumptions because you refuse to answer for your bad decisions and you haven’t fixed your bad reputation.

btw I like the way you responded, Most people don’t actually debate me and they usually lash out at me when I say anything remotely negative.

But I think you took it well and responded fairly.

I got hecate essence by paying some random dude with Galleon and Valuable stuffs to help me find it (Hecate Essence Service)

I got super lucky that I found it on first island as soon me and other dude who I paid reached far reach of dark sea

.. it still isnt 1st april

I don’t think a single thing you said is worth addressing but I’ll address it anyways because I’m so tired of this being floated around.

How can “you people” possibly assert that he’s doing this out of “greed” and simultaneously say “if it was cheaper he’d make more money because more people would buy it” (as said earlier in the thread).

Maybe… put 2 and 2 together???

At least the theory that he’s doing this out of spite makes some degree of sense because Vetex has openly admitted to making changes out of spite before. This theory is just plain stupidity.

If you want to know why a person does something you look at their pattern of behaviours and make a judgement based off of that, alongside being formed by reason.

Vetex has never demonstrated a tendency to be “greedy”, he has demonstrated rigid adherence to “lore accuracy” and a disdain for the community. Why would the magic gamepass being 2k Robux not be ONE of these two things?

I’ve stated before that I don’t think it was out of spite because he has repeatedly hammered down the fact that he doesn’t want magic changing to be easily accessible.

I already showed the tester chat logs in an earlier version of this discussion (still on the forums btw) showing that he didn’t even plan the price or want it to be a gamepass to begin with, other testers convinced him to do it and told him a price so he just went with it.

Although considering the whole “custom magics will remain a thing out of spite” situation I think people who believe it was spite motivated have a basis for their beliefs.

If it’s done out of spite then it’s bad practice simply put, It’s not like I’m not open to the fact that it was genuinely done out of spite.

the problem is that even if it was done in spite it should probably be reverted then cuz It’s still a bad practice even if it was done without that intention.

Also you have people like maple here that despite not being in the dev team is still communicating on your behalf.

I get that taking his word on this wouldn’t be fair cuz he’s not even in the dev team but you should probably put points like this down yourself so they don’t cause confusion.

Either way from your explanations, I do believe that this change wasn’t done entirely for the purpose of malpratice or greed.

However I do hope that you consider telling Vetex to undo these changes with a proper statement. Even if it’s done out of spite this will still act like malpractice and will play as such. It would be in the dev team’s best interest to just remove this and ignore the people who complained about the purchase not being a thing.

However if you don’t remove it then people will question whether it’s malpractice and if the whole spite thing is a guise, especially cuz it’s a bad look when combined with the patron thing and the monthly subscription thing. I hope you can at least acknowledge that it’s a bad look from common perspective.

Also you guys are already under fire for holding lore as an excuse to make bad features that are annoying for gameplay. I don’t mean to be annoying or passive aggressive here but you do realize this is a video game right? If the gameplay is annoying then people will complain. A majority of people don’t truly care if theres a lore reason for why magic changing is unfun as hell. I think the dev team could re-consider and make magic change easier just to improve your reputation at least.

Surely you don’t need to address me in particular, however I believe I’m using a POV of what most common community members would assume. If anything it should worry you that that’s the kind of opinion I’m forming as someone who cares about this game.

I mean seriously “2000 for a magic change and it was done out of spite? then why wasn’t it removed?” would be what any reasonable person would wonder.

I would highly recommend taking your team’s image and reputation seriously, I’m not even a hater. I truly do want AO to do better. However you can’t half do the answers and split them across different forum pages and expect everyone to know everything Because a majority of people don’t even use the forums.

All most players know now is that magic change is annoying, the change in cost is 2000 and that vetex is not gonna undo all that or listen to the opinions of anyone trying to communicate.

and that’s exactly how it’s been for years.

Remember that every player isn’t a part of the tester chat that your team is cooped up in. unless you explain yourself the majority aren’t gonna understand weird changes and additions which may or may not have reasonable backing.

also not to be mean, but you guys are a lot older then most of the community. I think it’s kind of embarrassing that you guys are doing things out of spite to piss off kids of all people.

A lot of people including me look up to developers like Vetex, Do better.

Idk why you’re even pinning this on us like we agree with some of the decisions Vet is making.

If we disagree with Vet there’s almost nothing we can do about it.

True, but you did decide to respond with this like you had something to do with it.

But fair enough, it’s not like your a direct part of Vetex’s team. It’s just that other then talking like this I and most people really have no chance to communicate these issues and they just pile up un-knowingly and ruin people’s experience with the game.

I do think you responded cuz you do care about the game yourself so I hope you would consider communicating these issues to Vetex or someone involved somehow.

I responded like that because I posted what I thought was a fairly uncontroversial statement and then open the reply to see it starting with a sentence containing “you people” like ???

It’s like whenever you talk to the general community as a tester your opinion can never get taken seriously unless you preface everything with “I HATE VETEX AND THIS DECISION IS TERRIBLE” otherwise you are some enemy of the people part of a dictatorial regime.

Like I’m literally not even disagreeing with anyone here people just NPC aggro over role and think that the role. It’s just completely corny. Although this situation was apparently just an issue with the way I worded it, but anyone actually paying attention to the context would’ve immediately figured out what I meant.

Usually communicating issues like this goes absolutely nowhere and the conversation ends with either 0 letters or 2 letters.

Okay fair, I’ll apologise for going with “you people” I didn’t actually think of it much when I posted it. It really did look like everyone with any contact with Vetex were just defending it but whatever It wasn’t fair to see it that way anyways.

I’m ngl that’s probably cuz of the lack of communication. it’s not your or any of the testers fault but because people see you guys talk and the fact that you have direct contact with vetex probably kicks them with anger :skull:

like “damn this guy has communication, but he ain’t doing shit to make the game great from the evil vetex” kinda shit.

I doubt that. It’s think it’s just gonna pile up constantly and countinue to de-grade any reputation vetex has.

It probably won’t be a talking point but it will deffo turn more people against Vetex even on situations that matter less, I mean especially after the class name change incident I doubt the community will be willing to let lesser problems just happen.

That doesn’t stop the problem at all lol? It just means that the people with money will be able to do it but not anyone else. This is just pure greed.

their mom

“You’re allowed to elect anyone who you like, as long as that person is me”

exaggeration aside…yea?

i always see testers and mods defending the worst changes in the game, and i get it. they have an incentive to agree with every change, good or bad, so they can be in good standing and keep their roles/powers. its perfectly understandable why people dont trust testers or mods, no offense

its like with fall damage, most people dont like nor want it, but the tester response was generally “shut up we tested it and its good just wait and see” like yea i see why people are gonna be hostile to you guys :sob:
