Practicality of Scythe Weapons in AO

Morden can* turn into the raw element of Death and people are worried about weapons being effective.

*If he could be bothered

we need scythe simply for drip

People assume it will be used for grim reaper cosplay as if I don’t want to match my clan’s plantation’s aesthetic.

Whats the discourse with a sycthe-type polearm weapon?

Nothing is hurting by it getting added, just model it or retexture and already existing model and add already existing moves like flying slash, flash strike, and that one downward slash move rayman showcased with his greatsword

Simply because scythes don’t work as weapons, so it’d be about as practical as using any farming tool as a weapon. Which isn’t the worst thing, but still significantly worse than a real weapon.

AO has weapon aura to make a weapon do magic, but it doesn’t seem to apply to non-weaponry such as shovels.

Yet that doesn’t matter?

You can turn swords into ranged weapons and blow giant gusts of air from a stick. Weapon practicality is non existent in arcane odyssey, if you haven’t noticed, then idk maybe read more fantasy or play more fantasy related games. Also, scythes are in arcane reborn and work perfectly, take down notes and inspiration.

no no no, i already mentioned that.

was that not puppy keeper? and if you did then why are you arguing against scythes?

A really good example of scythe use is mordex from brawhalla

i said it here.

I’m saying that a scythe is not a weapon, and logically shouldn’t work, for the same reason that a shovel doesn’t work. Though if it was specifically good for grabs, then I guess it’d make sense, come to think of it.

pretty sure weapon aura in real world arcane can be applied to anything that can work as one, which a scythe can and the aura only acts as a buffer

I mean if you’re really adamant on bringing your foes closer to you, while also slicing them a bit, then yes, a scythe would be very very practical.

Sure the scythe was not a weapon historically irl nor is it practical, but it’s still a fairly common weapon in fiction. Off the top of my head I can name like 5 scythe weapon users with 0 effort, which is more than I can do for most weapons in AO. The common connotation of scythes in media is that they can be used in weapons, so i doubt anybody would be confused or concerned about the practicality of them if they ever got added.

I always saw them used as of more of a symbol related to reaping or harvesting, and if used as a weapon, only to amplify the reaping connotation, like with the Grim Reaper, where it’s used to harvest a soul and bring them to the afterlife.

If some Genshin Impact character or whatever uses a scythe as a straight up weapon just to be cool, I’m not chilling with it.

I think a scythe could make a cool spirit weapon, actually. Since it’s all about attributed meaning rather than actual usage.

For move ideas, watch this video and skip to these times

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo5Qnf68hXA

Grab move: 1:28

Then watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGpFa9dzpcU

Scythe throw and grab: 0:03

Then in this image the scythe can have an arial X slash move:

And the last and 4th move could just be whirlwind

1st move - x slash

2nd move - grab

3rd move - whirlwind

4th move - throw and grab

Can’t a new weapon type get its own skills? I mean there’s no weapon type in the game where you can say “close enough” about a scythe, it’d just have to be a new type.
