Suggest to remove literally anything and people will start freaking out to defend it.

no matter how pointless or actively detrimental to the game it is.

I edited the suggestion in some notable ways. Not sure if I’m even allowed to do that but I think it improved it.

Not to turn this thread into a circlejerk, but the hunger bar is actually the most useless thing in the game with an actual function. It does nothing for immersion at all; in fact, the game pulls off immersion just fine without hunger being involved.

why make the game more easy though

hunger isn’t difficult, it’s just tedious and pointless when you probably got hundreds of food items

it isnt reaally tedious to just put afew items in your mouth man

There is no point in food being in the game if there is no hunger

does it serve any meaningful purpose though

kid named meal buffs

meal buffs have no effect on your gameplay unless you have perfect cooking skill

if they have no effect then why do they exist??? There’s zero purpose of the hunger system

you got me there :sob:

the point of this suggestion is to make food a mechanic you actually bother interacting with in a substantial way.

right now, most players will only ever care about food to fill up their hunger bar so that they don’t starve to death. this is a really basic function, especially since this isn’t like deepwoken for example, where the hunger bar is an actual resource that you need in order to regen hp. the hunger bar exists so that if it runs out, you die.

as such, people never bother interacting with the cooking mechanic. after all, while you can eat food for buffs past 100 hunger, that’s not very intuitive, and it also doesn’t give hunger. and it’s way worse for hunger than just eating the berries you already naturally find.

hunger is never a resource you actually have to manage in this game, and i reckon that in order to make it actually worthwhile, the game would’ve had to have been designed with it in mind. having a more terraria-like system of food buffs, mixed with the breath of the wild cooking system, would round out the mechanic and remove a useless feature that’s only purpose in life is to annoy you every 30 minutes

i’ve never played terraria or breath of the wild so i do NOT know where you are coming from with that. i CAN NOT RELATE HEL_P

you cant eat food in terraria when you have a food buff and breath of the wild is where the cooking system in this game comes from

food items in terraria have well rounded buffs to multiple stats while potions focus more on a specific thing

Im starting to agree with the author here. If hunger gets removed, then food effects could be buffed.

good change probably, just that if hunger gets removed we’re gonna have to buff food effects and other incentive changes to keep food with a purpose

Not really my intention, I just saw a useless mechanic and thought that it should be gone.

Hunger could be reworked into something good, but I don’t think it is necessary in the games current state nor what people want. Other games commonly make hunger increase health or stamina but those kinds of consumables already exist in AO (the stamina aspects are already tied to food buffs anyways).

I like this.

I mentioned this in a reply earlier but the quests are already a pretty good incentive to learn how to cook. The meal effects are also already usable imo. They’re not as flashy or immediately noticeable as potion effects but you can feel the difference when farming diving charts for example.

This will not be done.
