idk, i like Pokémon Soul Silver, New Soup Wii, and Unleashed all for nostalgia more than anything
but if you enjoy any gamss from these franchises (or any from your childhood that might be popular) tell 'em 'cause these just happenednto be the ones i grew up with
For Pokemon, Pokemon Violet (I have only played Pikachu, Shield and Violet)
For Mario, 3D World (although, if I played Galaxy, I would choose that one)
For the Sonic one, whichever one has eggman as the first boss (in Green Hill Zone) with a spinny boulder, is made of visible pixels and comes on old arcade game consoles. Idk its name but it was the most fun out of the two sonic games (the other one mario and sonic sport)
A favoruite childhood game would be Skylanders (probably why I like element-based games)

Pokémon: Ultra Sun (I’ve played Pokémon Scarlet but that game was so freaking bad, and then Tears of the kingdom makes it look super humiliating)

Secret Rings was a strange one i’m ngl, didn’t play it but the story beats are generally weird for Sonic
i’d be in the same spot if i hadn’t played the base versions
i hear good things about those but i actually just skipped that generation bc the pokémon weren’t my taste
love those too, i just prefer soup wii bc my siblings and i would play it a lot before they got too old to enjoy it

i recommend Generations since it’s on pc and console, Colors is great if you get the original Wii version bc the “remaster” is mid af, Unleashed is my favorite bc it has the best level design for the Boost Era (Generations is a good second) and is objectively the fastest that Sonic has ever been in a game. I also enjoy the night stages bc the beat-em-up combos and platforming are really enjoyable as someone who doesn’t play much of the genre. It’s only on console tho. I have a lot of love for '06 with its music, characters, and story but if you wait for Project '06 you’ll have a better time than on console

Mario, probably the OG New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. Amount of power-ups was insane to me as a kid.

Love soul silver, still have my game cartridge for it somewhere for my DSi. Sadly I don’t think I’ve ever finished that game though, it was passed down to me from one of my cousins.
As for best mario game and sonic game… smash ultimate? That’s the only one I know with both of them in it that I’ve played -v-

ds was good, overall it was a smaller game tho
i think you would enjoy some of the shenanigans in Unleashed and Generations with the hedgehog engine, otherwise '06 is ridiculously funny just in its existence if you know how to circumvent the most annyoing parts of certain levels
Diamond is goated, i had Pearl and my sister had Platinum (before i knew the difference aside from box mon), only reason i really like Soul Silver more is bc i got it when my brother got Heart Gold and i absolutely adored my totodile
