What books do y'all like

peak writingcooking (says cooking in image name lol)

Ah ok

@crimis_cringle please confirm whether or not you’re a Skandar enjoyer, I don’t know any other than my annoying AF sibling :sob:

just to be perfectly clear, which skandar is it specifically (series name)

The series is called Skandar

It’s a bit of a hear me out because on the surface it’s teens who ride unicorns, but when you actually read it you realise it’s both epic and also dark AF at times

Saga of Darren shan
Saga of larten crepsley

Demonata saga

End of discussion🙃

98% sure we’re thinking of the same one

also percy jackson is very peak and also peak

Name the first book

So I’ve heard

skandar and the unicorn thief iirc

We certainly are! Get in

I may not have met any WoF fans, but with Skandar I haven’t even met anyone who knows what it is lmfao (I’ve only read the first three tho I confess)

But yeah I’ve heard PJO is pretty good so I may have a look at some point

not just percy jackson, the entire extended universe is peak cinema

Yeah sorry that’s what I meant

you have to read project hail mary, it’s such an interesting science fiction novel and written by the same author who wrote the martian

Don’t lynch me but what’s The Martian

humanity sends a mission to land humans on mars, it succeeds and they leave to return home, but one man is left behind and has to survive on mars with what he has available to him (mainly potatoes). it also got a movie

Ah neat

peak

also peak

old but still peak

I prefer Magnus Chase but percy is still good

My favorite Christopher Paolini book is Murtagh

i still think about the Rembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy (usually just called by the first book Three-Body Problem) pretty often

i dont wanna spoil anything but the story itself overall is so interesting to me and i really love some characters stories in particular (Ye Wenjie and Luo Ji). It’s hard sci-fi (sci-fi that tries to stay fairly scientifically accurate/logical) but that doesnt stop it from having really cool ideas and scale especially in the 2nd and 3rd books. If you’re a fan of media series that go over large timescales rather than sticking to one period youd also be interested as most of the series takes place over 400 years, all the while it goes into alot of detail about humanity’s advancement, cultural changes, changes in how society and civilization functions, how the universe functions, etc.

In terms of pacing it’s a very slow buildup (that works in its favor), youre gonna be shown things that all tie together only near the end, etc. Though mind you there is more action-focused parts and while theyre not super prevalent theyre all written and setup incredibly well (the big event in the 2nd book is one of my favorite in any sci-fi thing ever actuually)

atleast for the english translated version (the books are originally written in chinese), the translator added a ton of footnotes especially in the first book giving historical context to many things referenced in the books and it gives a cool look into chinese history and whatnot. I think it definitely enhanced my enjoyment of it

That’s the best rough summary i can make up with zero spoilers but i love this series alot and i think any fan of sci-fi would like it

all Terry Pratchett discworld books READ THEM NOW

Might be a controversial take, but I personally think that percy jackson’s a bit… overappreciated. Don’t get me wrong, I like it well enough, i’ve read the whole verse like twice or thrice by now, but it’s not that good considering the amount of people that i’ve seen irl and otherwise that are utterly fanatic about it.

rookie numbers.
