What impact do you think the existence of Deepwoken will have on AO?

That and ao will probably have way more features by release

What impact did Pirates of the Caribbean Online have on DeepWoken and Arcane Adventures?

Exactly,
None.
So your point’s invalid

6ayyvyx

alright that’s a fair point

It’s not that I think that a dollar is too much, it’s that the concept of paying someone else for doing your own housework is warped because the idea of who is offering services to whom is being misunderstood. That’s like having people pay for the privilege to mow your lawn, or having your classmates pay to do your homework. Sure, it might happen, but it makes no sense whatsoever - hence “warped”.

Two questions:

  1. Are you baiting/trolling? Typically I’d just assume that’s the case and ignore but, giving that I’m on forum.arcaneodyssey.dev, I can’t be too sure.

  2. Is this a direct response to me, or someone else in the thread?

when am I not? I mean, sure, I bring a compelling point by relating the subject to an already way older pirate mmo but it’s obviously trolling

direct response

I thought as much, but I wasn’t too sure, so I said that.

I mean, you asked “why would I mute someone who hasn’t done anything to me” (paraphrase), and I gave you an answer :person_shrugging:

Fair enough.

You do know that early access is a normal thing in gaming now…right? It’s not like everyone who pays for it has to give feedback anyways, the testing universe will still exist. Ultimately though I’m pretty sure Roblox is Vetex main source of income so eventually he has to release the game. The only reason why WoM released in the state it did is because Vetex needed some cash to pay the bills. People tend to forget that on Roblox a lot of devs are still in HS/College so they don’t have to worry about these things as much

Sigh…

I get that you aren’t the person that initially replied to me, but still lol.

Possibly true, still doesn’t matter though.

It’s just bad by principle. This is why I said “warped” and not “evil” or “greedy” or any other more descriptive adjectives. It’s warped in the sense that it’s fundamentally stupid, but, as previously stated, this is the current state of the gaming industry, so it’s not like Vetex himself is doing anything bad or something.

making it paid access means that people understand it’s not a complete game and is still going through testing.

if he were to make early access free, people would shit on the game for having bugs/incomplete things even though it’s not being presented as a finished game in the first place. making it paid access means that people will go into it understanding that it’s not perfect. the fans have been waiting 2 years for it and they’ll take early access for 100 robux rather than waiting it out. they know what they’re getting: an incomplete game. not every timmy who stumbles upon it will

My guy, you are paying 100 R$ for the game not for beta testing lmao  your comparison (and no offense) is pretty shit, in no way when you play AO beta are you forced to start “looking for bugs”, of course, you could do it if you want but I guarantee you that 99% of the player base will just be enjoying the game. A better comparison would be paying to be able to stay at a motel, you can clean it up if you want but most people just stay there to sleep for the night and that’s it, in no way are you forced to do anything bruh, the whole point of beta testing isn’t just for players to manually report bugs but to find bugs much quicker with the influx of people

I’m gonna be honest with you and tell you the only thing “warped” here is that logic.

The critical difference between AO and mowing lawns/doing homework is that one of them is literally a game and the other isn’t.

Resuming
We WANT test the game, so theres no problem

Except mowing someone else’s lawn isn’t fun.

And also it’s totally their choice if they want to pay to have beta access or not. Don’t want to play? Don’t pay for it then.

the way i see a paid beta is that it keeps new players out, to prevent them getting bad first impressions and never playing again due to the game being unfinished or buggy

paid access forces you to actually look into what a game is before you play it instead of clicking play without reading the description

also paid early access has been a thing for years, and is especially common on roblox so this isnt some sort of unique situation and seems more like a random nitpick

Is the concept of early access foreign to you? You know it’s not at all a new thing and exists outside of roblox games right. Early bird promotion, exclusive first access to prototypes, etc.

You’re paying for priority access to the product, you’re not paying to test the product. By that logic any act of playing the game would just be for the sake of giving the dev balancing feedback

Yes, and the difference between an apple and an orange is that they are not of the same species, therefore expecting both of them to have seeds is so very unreasonable even though they are both fruits? No offense, but I don’t think you know what the point of a comparison is. I will explain this point in the least demeaning way possible, but, seeing as this is a particularly easy point to understand, it will probably end up sounding demeaning anyway due to the content of the explanation.

In a comparison, the two objects being compared do not need to be exactly the same or even mostly similar. What is necessary is that they are similar in the quality to which attention is being drawn. In my “apples vs oranges” example, if I wanted to compare the methods of fruit extraction in apples and oranges, they need only be fruits that have seeds in an approximate position for me to say “apples are like oranges”. In context, it makes sense.

Similarly, in this example the only similarity necessary is that both of them be works of labour that are done to the overwhelming benefit of the payee. This is a labour that the payee should normally be paying others - preferably professionals or frequent customers - to do (or at least offering up as a volunteer position). Just as paying someone to mow a lawn is to the benefit of a payee, playing someone’s incomplete game for them to effectively beta-test for free is similarly warped. No, it does not matter whether I derive enjoyment from mowing the lawn, it would still be warped, and anyone who accepted pay for getting their lawn mowed would appropriately be looked upon as exploitative. However, as I have reiterated time and time again, this is a problem that affects the entire gaming industry, so it’s not Vetex I have a problem with.

Do you feel educated now? Do you have any questions?

I’m getting to the other replies now.
