What is your OC like?

please? :pleading_face::pray:
(only if you don’t mind)

I just have two: Kaden Ketch and Amber Cinders

They’re fairly standard MC stand-in characters, though they both exist in the same timeline and kinda “share” the role of MC.

Neither Kaden nor Amber lost their memory, though neither wants to recount the events of their captivity by the Order of Asier. Kaden’s the one who thought up the escape plan. Amber altered it in secret with Tucker, as Kaden refused to allow anyone else to take risks. Amber’s alteration is ultimately what got Tucker killed, but without it, they likely wouldn’t have escaped.

Kaden and Amber both disagree too much to work together much. Amber just wants to live, whereas Kaden believes strongly in a greater purpose. He’s the one who gets in trouble a lot more, but he also is better at making quick relationships and acquiring allies. This difference caused conflict after fighting Elius, as Amber wanted to finish him off, but Kaden wouldn’t let her (let’s be real here; Amber was right).

Kaden’s pretty arrogant under the surface; he intentionally took Argos on, rather than just trying to spy on him. He’s good at getting out of tricky situations, but bad at staying out of them. Amber’s a lot more levelheaded, and avoids conflict where she can. She has a mostly neutral reputation, sparring a few instances of helping innocent people. Kaden, on the other hand, has a considerable bounty by the Assassin Syndicate, as he dismantles them wherever he goes.

Will need to think of more for these two, as right now they’re just “MC, but there’s two of them”.

just going off the one: Godwin Engstrom

before order stuff in the beginning, he did actually hail from a family of nobles. however, due to the amnesia, he doesn’t remember any nor does he really care. if they found him today they’d disown his pirate ass.

once he got his bearings on the sea, he immediately became a warlord because a) this man loves physical combat and b) this man LOOOOOOVES big-ass weaponry. like he would unironically use a ship cannon as a gun if the game let him. lore-wise his fighting style is cannon fist/basic combat but in game its iron leg because colossal cleave.

in terms of personality, he’s a very “ok but i could just beat them up ?” type of person. like every single time there’s a large group of some kind of enemy that hes NOT supposed to attack, iris/morden have to remind him to not. this leads to him getting visibly excited whenever he’s allowed to. this also carries over into his rival, bryant. this doesn’t mean hes entirely stupid, but like if he needs to get by someone and theyre not letting him by there is a non-zero chance he’ll punch them in the gut instead of negotiating

he also attacks the navy whenever he can. he’s not a full-blown criminal, like he helps out castaways and attacks pirates and the assassin syndicate while leaving merchants alone but he just fucking hates the navy, largely due to what kenton told him

regarding his deckhands; he talks a lot about philosophy and whatnot with the enchanter Fuller, him and navigator Bates go hunting together quite a bit, him and cannoneer Houston have the same enthusiasm for attacking and looting ships, though shipbuilder Parrish is 100% his favourite simply because it means he doesnt have to spend money repairing

ive kinda tossed around the idea that when in the dark sea, his personality shifts almost entirely. like he goes from being boisterous nd happy-go-lucky to dead silent the entire time, while also not retaining any memories from what happened in there. “i just go in and come back out eventually”

Ooh, OCs are always so interesting and I’ll always love to see them. Sadly, I don’t have many OCs of my own or any developed enough to feel like a character worth sharing.

Glad to be of similar minds! I’d love to see your OCs once you’ve developed them.

This fella?

Well, I did touch on the backstory of Nicholas (aka my most developed and oldest character) before, so I might as well explain who they actually are and what they do.

Nicholas Salore, an interesting soul for sure… They’re a fun-loving, thrillseeking agent of chaos. Always on the move with their band of merry men, hard to pin down where they last been. They seemingly discovered their powers overnight after an incident on a merchant ship roughly 6 years ago… Since then, their deeds and more infamous actions spread through the War Seas.

They and their crew often trade, do odd cargo jobs, and carry out attacks on Pirates and the Syndicate, often giving back to poorer merchants and saving those in trouble. Everyone in their crew is wanted in the Bronze Sea for treason, inciting revolts, and general disloyalty to the Ravenna crown. Nicholas mocks their loyal lineage by wearing an exact copy of the said crown, wearing it for so long that their lengthy expeditions to the Dark Sea and its rain have began to leave marks on it. Along the impoverished and everyday traders, they began to call them “The Risen”, a legend and glorious revolutionary.

Despite being a force of good and change in the War Seas, them and their crew are on thin ice with the Grand Navy, not quite liking their influence on the sea. Nicholas themself has often saved multiple criminals from executions, simply viewing their punishments as “unfair”, “unjust”, or simply because they wish to show their distrust of the authority of the Navy.

Nicholas themself dislikes fighting or company that is not their own men, however they don’t attack or chase others away unless forced to. They act cheerful, usually. Joking and making small talk, getting lost in their mind when planning, occasionally letting their serious side slip when something goes wrong… They don’t take much seriously, unless their somewhat loose moral compass takes offense to something, which would be kind of hard to do, they simply have a lot of patience. The extent of their true power is not quite known, but it is often said they can force acid to seep out of the ground in geysers, shattering the ground below with force.

Besides all the tales and such, they’re a great engineer and a shipbuilder; them having extensive knowledge of how a ship operates. As the captain of their merry men, they would also be a great quartermaster and a logistical miracle, given their previous work on merchant ships.

(Do they know of the MC, Morden, Iris and the rest? I’m gonna break the immersion here and say that I don’t know! They are supposed to be written like they could fit into the story, that’s the point, but I don’t think that the character is quite ready for that yet. For now let’s say that they might’ve heard of them and their antics, generally being proud of them and applauding their actions.)

I really love the detail people have put into their characters so far. I didn’t expect this topic to get as much replies as it did, so thank you! Reading all your replies has been fun for me.

half the stuff i said about engstrom i made up on the spot lol
like i needed a reason for him to have a noble-sounding name despite the fact this man is undeniably a sewer rat

Sif Pollux

Main OC (one who my novelization of AO is about)

My take on the AO mc, standard Amnesiac plotline, Order abductee all that good stuff. Where he differs, is in how long The Order kept him, and by extension Morden and Tucker.

Grew up on Keraxen textile farm with his parents and brother. His parents were both farmers and the actual merchants, so they were well off, but not overly wealthy. Had aspirations to be a Light-Singer (my term for what’s effectively a bard who uses Light magic in their performances.) At sixteen however, word gets around about his talents with Light Magic. Due to his connection to Apollo, he has a greater control of Light Magic, even being able to change the color of his constructs leading to incredibly life like performances. Unfortunately this attracts the The Order of Aesir.

Who proceed to kidnap him, and put into their living weapons program, The Psychopomps Initiative. Two years of nightmarish training, which included things such as dying briefly, getting branded with The Order’s symbol on his neck, a battle royal against the other test subjects, (which left only four alive, you may think this is a waste, but in my … I would say headcanon, but it’s an Alternate Universe at this point. Regardless, The Order had a way of harvesting the Spirit Energy from the legacies the victors slew.) being renamed Achilles after surviving the royal with nary a scratch, and getting his bones replaced with arcanium (the way they did this was through the use of a mixture of earth and metal magic to permanently transmute the bones into arcanium. This only changed the bones’ substance not structure, so bone marrow and red blood cells are still produced. Though this probably means Sif needs a lot more iron in his diet) so that Agamemnon, the leader of the project, is able to puppet the Psychopomps around.

Thankfully they are only active for one year (the previous year spent in training and conditioning, read brainwashing), but have confirmed kills on at least two Cursebearers, which was the main purpose of the initiative creating weapons that can rival Cursebearers in power without needing Seacurses themselves. One of the afformentioned Cursebearers being the Daimyo of Ryujin, Mamoru Shura bearer of the Acid curse.

Finally escape, due to the Wrath of the Gods causing such disorder in the facility that three of the four are able to escape. Persephone however, stays behind to cover their escape. Sif promises to return for her, but is unable to fulfill this oath due to his amnesia.

What caused that amnesia? Y’know just a pact with an eldritch being (eldritch just meaning odd or supernatural in this instance,) basically Sif makes a deal with a being, probably Creation, to fight against The Order’s plan to release whatever power it is they plan on releasing. In return Creation takes Sif’s memories locking them away until Sif is ready to deal with them. Is this an incredibly unhealthy form of the already unhealthy act of repression? Yes, yes it is. Unfortunately the body’s a lot less malleable than the mind, and most of the combat experience Sif gained under The Order is still there. Just locked behind a dissociative state, wherein he abandons all morals and ethics while fighting. Yeah, not a great deal, but he was in pain and practically still a kid, so eh? It made sense at the time.

This is how Sif starts the story, with knowledge of concepts i.e: rain, kingdoms, farming, ect. But no experience to tie those back to, leaving him feeling very lost and not knowing who he is/was. Eventually he goes on his Odyssey, joins the Grand Navy, brings Calvus to justice, and eventually falls in love with Iris and her with him.

Alex "Storm" Pollux

Just gonna copy this section from another OC thread.

Adrian Day

image

I would probably consider Adrian to be my most interesting OC, if for nothing else than novelty. Unlike Sif and Alex, Adrian hails from Skyhall. His parents were glass workers, and had a history of Glass Magic users in their family.

Adrian was no different, though he didn’t take up the family trade, he was born with glass magic which is what he attributes his silvery hair and grey eyes to. At least for most of his life, more on that later. Growing up Adrian often visited his aunt Maisy “Gwynn” Vista , sister to Adrian’s mother Lillian “Gwynn” Day, who lived in Cirrus.

Though Adrian’s favorite part of visiting Cirrus, was spending time with his great-grandfather Adrian Gwynn. Adrian the elder, or just Old Man Gwynn, was an unparalleled story teller, at least in Adrian the younger’s eyes. Who spoke of the Olympians and the Hellenistic pantheon with such vividity you’d think he’d lived during the Golden-Age. Adrian’s favorite story that he always beseeched his great-grandfather to tell was of the Gwynns and Wisdom’s blessing. It was said that long ago, Athena herself had blessed their house with wisdom seen only in the likes of Odysseus and even today some were born with that blessing.

Adrian had always been, at the very least an odd boy. Not in the way that a madman is odd, but in the way the philosopher is odd. His mind seemed to work at a speed unmatched, forming connections to concepts and theories after only hearing of them for a moment. There were even times, when the world itself seemed to slow to allow the spaces between seconds to be filled with the young man’s thoughts.

This led Adrian to pursue scholarship and learning as his main purpose in life, combined with his love of his grand-father’s stories it led him to become a journalist for the Agora.

During his path to the Agora, he enrolled in the Aeolus (probably going to need a new name given the volcano which was announced) University, pursuing his major in Journalism and his minor in mathematics, with a focus on economics. In these four years Adrian would meet two people which would change his life. His best friend Harry Larsen, a Keraxen who immigrated to Skyhall, and despite the attitudes of the natives carved a place for himself in both the university and later at the Agora. Then his love interest bitter rival, Janet Aura, a brilliant mind to rival Adrian’s own. Constantly competing against each other, be it for scholarships, premotions, or through office pranks. It is also during this time he learns his second magic, trains in fencing and marksmanship, and learns some basic brawling techniques.

Eventually after four years of study and dealing with Janet, the three of them are all employed at the Agora. Janet, having been a year ahead of Adrian, was already a reporter by the time he joined the paper. Meanwhile, Adrian and Harry began their careers as assistants and then move to field journalists. It is during Adrian’s time as a field journalist he gains a love for adventure, which of course leads to the hijinks and shenanigans which my stories about him will include.

Adrian is a legacy of Athena, who does utilize spirit energy, however, he does it an unconventional way. He will probably have a spirit weapon, though to him imbuing his own energy is far easier, but it also allows him to engage quick thought. Which speeds his brain process up to the point it seems time is slowed, this is very useful in both combat and social situations.

This is all for now, I say that as though this isn’t at least 1k words, I’ll write explanations about my minor OCs tomorrow. These will include, Janet, Harry, and Sean and Josephine (The Cursebearer couple who run the Agora)

Only my close friends care about my actual worldbuilding + cast, for the sake of everyone else’s time here, it’s for the better I just spare you all from the ramble.

As for my AO characters it’s just:

generic evil madman

no personality player character that I use mainly ingame

cowgirl, how is this a personality trait I have no idea

I’ll link to this message where I explained my two main OCs in-depth

I do have a third, who is, dare I say, my favorite.

I won’t say much right now, since she will be getting a proper introduction very soon. All I’ll say is, get ready for a taste of what lore-accurate Spirit Energy can really do.

Edit: Here it is! This story has all the essentials about Hayes’ character. I worked really hard on it :hugs:

Short version: half of them are mentally deranged murderous psycopaths and the other half are just trying to survive

Slightly Longer Version

Mikhail: 193cm, 45 or 48 yrs old depending on version, moderate body, right eye is scarred and turned white (not blind); left eye is blue. Only character among the twelve that has a beard. Morally grey titled towards good side. Kind and caring but also emotionally vulnerable.

Phrixus: 190cm, 36? yrs old, moderate body, wears a black mask that covers all but his eyes. Literally the one winged angel. Kills people for fun with his comically long masamune. Ruthless and arrogant.

Aurora: 170cm, 23 yrs old, slim body, is blind and dressed in yellow. Self proclaimed therapist. Is a silly goober and kind.

Kaira: 177cm, 28 yrs old, muscular, likes to beat people up. Is rash, rude and reckless. Kai and Nya combined if u will.

Galahad: 184cm, 29 yrs old, moderate and handsome, complete opposite of Kaira. Kind, caring and defensive.

btw Kaira and Galahad r in a romantic relationship

Vilmar: 186cm, 40 yrs old? Genetically enhanced monster, psycotic and cruel. Likes to behead people

Alycia: 155cm, 19 yrs old, basically a cinamon roll whose existence is because I need a cute girl. Is kind, too kind, naive and cute. Also very pacifistic and introverted

Valerie: 168cm, 22 yrs old, aka cute girl 2. Similar to Alycia but is extroverted

Lucius: 171cm, 40 yrs old, narcassistic and greedy, beats people up and steals stuff

Regis: 225cm, 30? yrs old, that really big, buff and muscular black guy that hits like a truck. He’s kinda just there

Rosalyn: 175cm, 25 yrs old, the only evil female main. Twisted, cold, cynical and cunning, likes to insult people for no reason

Olivia: 172cm, 35 yrs old, another kind and caring girl

Dm me for long version

That’s cool! Did he move to Frostmill before or after it pledged allegiance to the Ravenna Realm (which, iirc, takes place a few months before the main story)? If it was before, Frostmill’s deal with Ravenna could be quite a life-changing event you could use for your narrative.

Gunther, having thought he left that awful town once and for all, now has his life turned upside down once again as he finds himself under Ravenna’s rulership just like before. Frostmill’s government might even try sending him back to Tiberia if Ravenna wills it.

That’s such a cool premise for a character. Is she like an Atlantean, or a Greek mythological creature, or some other kind of monster? Whatever it may be, there are so many interesting themes you could tackle with that. Let me know if you have any stories I could read!

After all these years of searching for a way to beat lightning saillocks, taking them through a custody battle was the true meta all along :sob:

Fr though he sounds pretty cool. Wonder how he got his bounty higher than even most curse users (presumably), and with no lost-tier powers.

Whoa this sounds awesome! I’ve never heard of a story taking place in another sea cluster before. I almost feel tempted to do it myself… All the cool new islands I could make :joy:

Also I’m a big fan of these sorts of characters. The underdog suffering all his life under a cult’s whims, taught he was weak only to prove them all wrong.

Lol she sounds so fun. I love silly characters telling the most ridiculous lies.

Also this is a really interesting theme to write about! I’d love to see characters struggle as they question their own sanity and what’s what. Sadly things are rarely ever as simple as we’d like, and that’s something we all have to grapple with one way or another.

This is such an awesome duality, their dynamic sounds fun to read! Also a pretty deep theme to tackle… Do you need to aspire to something greater to feel whole, be it an ambitious goal, dream, or something else… Or is it better to lie low and enjoy an easy, modest life?

Sounds like a super entertaining character, especially since you’ve got Iris/Morden as straightmen endlessly trying (and failing) to keep him in check. Although I think it would just be Morden, since Iris is shown in the in-game journals to be a repeat offender of similar reckless behavior and thus would probably encourage or join Godwin.

Also it’s sweet that he got such burning hatred for the Navy just from hearing Edward’s experience with them. Makes me think Godwin probably cares a lot about those close to him. His thirst for battle most likely gets them in unnecessary danger more often than not, but I imagine he always succeeds in stomping out that danger with minimal harm; defending his allies from trouble with equal fervor and passion as he causes said trouble.

I wonder what that merchant ship incident was :eyes:

Also you’re the first person I’ve seen to have a logical explanation for their character wearing an exact replica of Calvus’ crown
Big respect for that. The detail that it’s now marred and weathered from how long it’s been worn is cool as well. Gives a visual to think about, while also highlighting how far Nicholas takes their spite.

Purple acid geysers sound so cool :fire:
I also think you’re the only other person I’ve seen to have an OC with a background in shipbuilding other than myself. You would think it would be a more common skill, for how useful it is in a place like the War Seas.

HMM… Do you think Sif could ever awaken some of Apollo’s future sight and prophesying ability? When combined with his amnesia, you could turn the normal state of the human mind upside down. A character who knows nothing of the past, but a lot of the future. Idk if that would be in line with your plans for Sif, but hopefully it’s some neat food for thought :eyes:

Also, arcanium bones, man that’s hardcore :fire:

I like how you weave awesome prose into your character descriptions. Usually I don’t try too hard at that when I’m explaining characters out-of-story, I mostly just put effort into the stories themselves, but you go the whole way. I should aspire to that.

Haha self-proclaimed?
I’m curious what the details are

he does get storm magic somewhere along the line!!! like an unpredictable, wild, walking force of nature, much like his personality

The Merchant ship incident actually happens here!

This isn’t my magnum opus, the backstory need a little clean-up. I told it in a rather lazy, oversimplified and almost abridged way when I was writing it down, as I didn’t expect somebody to be actually interested.

For continuity sake, Nicholas was 17 at the time. They gained some fame and they were the talk of the local sea and beyond, the story was published to the Agora after all. Their mind still wonders about the old dreams sometimes. Perhaps it was fate, but they REALLY hate the concept of fate, doing their best to change the future. If fate is set, then chaos can’t exist, right?

Also, they still talk to their master/teacher (Simon Torres), who is at a rather advanced age these days; not being able to join their crew of merry men or sail anymore, he spends his days retired in Sameria at Al-Jahili, occasionally being commissioned for help with ship design.

i don’t have that many ocs but here are the more significant or loved ones (loved as in loved by me)

Arkenheilor (Mascot OC for my Archenhailor identity)
  • omnipotent
Ethereal Overcharge

Origin Universe: Unknown, but it’s similar to Undertale and Minecraft’s nether
Age: 600+
Abilities: Magic Light Spear, Light Magic, Lightning Magic
VS Battles Tier: 8-C (small building)

Ethereal Overcharge is a strange humanoid golem spirit that likes fighting others. It fights for fun and doesn’t like killing off its enemies because of that.

My works it appears in: Kits & Kills (abandoned game)
Idea Origin: Vetex Aether Lightning + Aang + Undyne + Construct (Roblox Encounters)

Wielder of Haitsenkori

*the sword he has on his back is different that the image and is way bigger

Origin Universe: Magic Power Simulator
Age: ??? (80 in image, ~280 at death)
Abilities: Enchantment Magic, Fire Magic?
VS Battles Tier: 8-C

I haven’t decided if his real name should be Halshen Kortisaiju or Zornofen Koruchizoru (the latter is actually so silly). No backstory planned, but he died while fighting.

My works it appears in: Magic Power Simulator* (hidden lore figure, why am i even making lore for a fucking simulator)
Idea Origin (Haitsenkori): a giant ass greatsword fueled by metabolism

The Godsight Hunter

Origin Universe: Magic Power Simulator
Age: ???
Abilities: Enchantment Magic
VS Battles Tier: 8-C

No backstory planned, except they killed at least 1 notable lore figure.

My works it appears in: Magic Power Simulator* (hidden lore figure, why am i even making lore for a fucking simulator)
Idea Origin (Godsight Hunter): Sova bow ripoff

Tenevori Etudi

Origin: Legacy/Pre-rewrite Flesh Armored Legends (Elemental Flesh Armored Legends)
Age: 24
Height: 1.84m
Abilities: Life Magic (Biochemical Life Manipulation)
VS Battles Tier: 9-A or 8-C but crushes all carbon-based life form opponents easily
Species: Human

He was once a normal teenage boy living in a country with culture just like the middle east. He also has a younger sister named Selerichi. That all changed when his father, the breadwinner, died when he was 18 and his sister was 13. This forced Tenevori into having to help out the family by raising money.

When he was 19, his college friends introduced him to the drug trade and he got life magic by eating a magical fruit. Life magic is extremely rare in that world. He abused his life magic to the fullest, being able to easily produce drugs and becoming an extremely powerful drug lord.

Selerichi was the chosen elemental flesh armored legend of life. If Tenevori was the life legend, he’d be unstoppable.

Fun fact: If I were to give him a (somewhat) realistic name, he’d be Tenebris Cabral and his sister would be Celeritas Cabral. His counterpart in FAV is Shouzate Elantra.

Idea Origin: had too much fun learning about drugs in health class grade 9
