The regions:
The map being connected by land was definitely a really nice aspect of WoM. Having the wilderness areas definitely helped with the world looking better in between places like towns, rather than AO’s rather empty oceab. Sure, we have diving spots, whales, and that kind of stuff, but I honestly prefer WoM’s wilderness areas over the empty sea. There was more to do in between traveling, like fighting NPC camps or looting chests, whereas in AO you don’t do much unless you’ve actively farming sealeds.

The NPCs:
The NPCs were honestly quite an enjoyable aspect of WoM. You had a lot more options in WoM with interacting with them vs in AO. You could read their dialogue lines, which helped expand on the lore or just gave them more personality. You could easily get them to battle if you were bored, or wanted to construct an army of NPCs. You could raid towns and fight hordes of soldiers, and see how long you could last against the captains. In AO, we have none of that. Castrum is sort of like threats, but honestly the limited space to fight and the issue such as excessive lag and difficult to find last NPCs make it not so fun. The other two aspects are outright gone, with no hostile NPCs being chattable, and with NPCs despawning or resetting preventing you from leading them around. Your only option is just to kill them; it’s hard to derive other enjoyment from them for most.

The playerbase:
Until the mess that was the guild infamy situation, the players in WoM were generally friendly to each other. I could meet other people without worry that one of them was trying to murder me. Seriously, vetex really messed up with the forced PvP incentives. It was fun doing stuff like threats, fishing, or boss farming while just interacting with other players, something that’s kind of lost in AO nowadays. Most randoms will just ignore you or try to murder you rather than enjoy going through the more mundane tasks together with another player. Another reason is probably just the larger map in AO, with players being unable to bump into each other often like in WoM.

we’ll be able to do that in 9 years

Yo I love AA but the dialogue in AA is SHIT bro.???

I beg you, go to the first Sea and try go through the main storyline reading every piece of dialogue, you’re going to physically cringe :skull:

All of this is only in Books, outside the game or in the Webcomic, ingame dialogue is probably the weakest part about AA, primarily because it was written by Vetex as a child

Visit anygame in the AU timeline (WoM, AA, to an extent AO)

They all have that sense of dialogue… that is ass.
For WoM its 20% Juicy worldbuilding, 40% yap and 40% cringey emo dialogue

For AA its 15% VERY juicy World Building 15% Lore dump and then 70% Dialogue that will make you cringe

AO’s main storyline dialogue isn’t that bad, but anytime you fight a villain, especially pirates etc… :fearful:

“hi HAHAHAHAHAAHA”

straight out of WoM…

“Another weakling,” they say as I pull out my 300-damage Water Blast
