Well, one thing is that I intentionally keep my renown low. I usually have about 5k on average. So if you’re going after me, it can’t be renown, right? And it can’t be me being in a clan either, since I’m not even in one.
Another thing is that I usually tend to avoid overstuffing my ship with any cargo or treasure. I don’t intentionally try to fight pirates or assassins on the seas, so at most you’d probably see about…say, 4, 5 chests? That certainly doesn’t seem like a lot to attack someone over for.
For the most part, I’m just minding my business. I’m probably just going around, doing treasure charts, sometimes just grinding bosses, or perhaps even just standing there. To my knowledge, these aren’t activities that prompt PvP. Sure, you could kill me as I’m doing my treasure charts to get a subpar reward from it, but you might as well attack a pirate ship yourself and get more treasure.
I am not someone who actively goes out of their way to PvP with someone. Sure, I don’t mind some matches at Munera here and there, I tend to find it quite fun (even if I get absolutely eviscerated.) That being said, I don’t wish to be forced into a fight I have no interest in partaking in. If my renown is low and I’m not in a clan, those should very much be signs that I don’t want to PvP. If they continue to initiate a fight, then I am absolutely going make sure they don’t get the satisfaction of one.

what should they do out of spite then, not try and survive? if you know you won’t be able to kill them then fighting won’t work. the spite might bring some joy from living so long against someone trying to randomly kill you, but it’s not the reason they try. people just don’t want to die or give someone satisfaction brought from worsening another’s gameplay. it’s about consequences; if you try and do something to someone that they don’t like then you shouldn’t expect any sort of compliance from them. someone retaliating against you for attacking them out of the blue isn’t toxicity
