The capital city of Impexis, Akos’ homeland is called Ipaferi Iferissoa Al Seir which is derived from an old version of the modern language spoken there in Akos’ time and like the convention for naming places literally everywhere, it was basically called ‘Icy Cliffs’ back in the day and hasn’t changed since.

Its home to a huge palace complex where Akos lives, here’s a tiny little diagram of it:

Gonna improve that diagram at some point but basically yeah palace.

Continent changes? wanted to make it less ‘blob-like’ and I think this might take a while. Still one continent but you have to cross water to get from side to side although it gets super shallow in places/there’s bridges.

map progress. Moved onto Sabasda Rejüsis now and redone a lot of its shape. You might have noticed the style change slightly and I’ve sort of moved away from the hyper detailed coastlines. I can add in additional stuff later I just think I’d rather have good looking landmasses rather than super detailed coasts right now.

It does mean there’s a pretty noticeable break here where the style changes

But its fine, honestly this map is just so I have something to build on and reference rather than perfect artwork.

loving this continent although a bit unsure on the islands in the giant lake

Cities of Impexis

Akos’ nation has in the year 1018 eight major cities. There are many more settlements, some quite large, but these eight cities held a higher status above the others.

These were:
Ipaferi Iferissoa Al Seir
Esvogg El Crie
Ettzen El Crie
Ishak El Seir
Kald El Veirn
Retzez El Fery
Seris El Crie
Melggrir El Fery

Before the Stamstani War there was also Fren El En Val

Ipaferi Iferissoa Al Seir

The capital city of Impexis, built on a clifftop as originally as a military fortress. Now a hub of scholarly pursuits. It sits on the edge of the Great Frost Plain, which means that in terms of resources its pretty barren, however its close proximity to the city of Ishak means it has a steady supply of food from the west to support it.

Esvogg El Crie

A coastal fortress city in the north of Impexis. Served as the base of operations for the military of the nation during the Stamstani War, which was moved away from Ipaferi Iferissoa for security reasons. Other than its role as am military base, it is also a huge trading hub as due to the barren nature of Impexis they rely heavily on imports from western nations.

Ishak El Seir

Although close by to the Great Frost Plain, the western lands here have more food as the ice desert ends and great expanses of rock and tundra begin. Due to this, it is not suitable for growing crops but the lichen, mosses and shrubs can feed the hardy livestock that provide most of the food for both Ishak and Ipaferi Iferissoa

Kald El Veirn

A remote and northern fishing city to the north of the Great Frost Plain. Few people live on the northern coast this side of the lakes, but those that do usually rely on the great variety of fish that can be found in the northern seas to survive. Hunters and nomadic people who live on the northern coast often head to Kald to trade their goods away to the merchants willing to brave the dangerous and long journey south to Ishak or Ipaferi Iferissoa

Ettzen El Crie

The historical oldest city in Impexis which is named after the people of the Riaaya Etze. Connects the eastern and western cities together and is in a prime location. Despite being quite far north, being by the shores of Lake Neriposorensa has its advantages, with surrounding forests and fertile land providing a much greater variety of food than would be found elsewhere in the nation.

Okay more tomorrow probably idk

lol found this tool by NASA called gProjector. My map doesn’t render great right now but it lets me compare it with Earth which is neat//look at loads of different map projections.

Retzez El Fery

A western hunting city in amongst the lakes and forests to the west of the nation. It sits in quite an isolated spot on the shore of Lake Retzez and historically was a capital city of a long gone Riaaya Etze nation.

Seris El Crie

Another lakeside city between Ettzen and Ishak. Relies heavily again on fishing and isn’t bordering the forests so doesn’t have a reliable source of food from there, although similar to Ishak it is suitable for livestock.

Melggrir El Fery

The westernmost city and warmest port in Impexis. Although the nation reaches further south into warmer waters (as well as to the far east after Stamstani was destroyed) these are not suitable for cities due to mountains and the sheer distance from the rest of the Impexis population. Due to this, the city sees greater activity during the winter when ice prevents access to Esvogg and rivers inland.

Fren El En Val

The city of Fren El En Val was a major city to the south of the Great Frost Plain and north of the great range of mountains separating Impexis from the southern world. It was a hub for those coming in the land routes from the Daesálir Perliti nations, hunters from the Plain and miners from the mining villages scattered throughout the miners heading to Ipaferi Iferissoa Al Seir.

Can’t say Earth isn’t also guilty of this.

There isn’t really a reason for the map to be centered there and in reality maps in world would be centered where they originate from, just the way I drew/imported the map and I guess just familiarity with how I look at maps made me orient it that way.

That ocean is called the Amagrathei Ocean and it used to be home to another continent in a time long passed, that was destroyed and sunk (yes okay Beleriand I get it) in a war called the Forseen War (because, they predicted it).

One of my biggest inspirations is Forma, the world in which the Roblox games Dead Ahead and Centaura are set in and they have huge oceans, but also giant underwater megafauna and sea monsters and stuff, and I can imagine there being some dangerous things in the Amagrathei.
(Forma for reference)

Honestly I wonder how my continent maps might look when put into this thing, but I’d probably have to redraw them since they’re all in google sheets

What’s the website you’re using to draw your continents again?

App not a website but I’m sure there’s alternatives

You could probably also use Krita

Many countries. No names for all but five (seven if you count the Heung and Tha’ael Districts). There’s also a good amount of unclaimed or disputed territory whether for the reason that there’s no way to support people there so no stance or reason (other than big = powerful) to claim it and if they did the claim would be super weak.

Also came to the realisation that the underwater people have underwater countries

Icarus

Been thinking and writing about him over a couple days and he’s gone from a pretty weak character to one of my favourite. I started thinking about characters a bit differently and I think its worked, but let me know what you think. The only thing missing here is a bit more context on Nishifubetu culture and the Nishifubet Civil War that begins in Icarus’ youth, but I can probably provide those another time.

In our world the name Icarus is Greek in origin, referring to the son of Daedalus who flew too close to the sun, falling and drowning in the Icarian Sea. In this world, Icarus is a very different name. Born in the southern nation of Nishifubetu, one cursed to exist eternally under a constant threat of war. At this time, Nishifubet is easily the largest country in the world (Since Akos’ nation Impexis had not won the Stamstani war yet), stretching across over half the southern coast of Hêyth Rejüsis.

The nation is named after its royal bloodline, the Nishifubet Family, who was cursed as the Immortal Bloodline by the Ers Seret Arasirikis Rethalliux, Ers Grath. The country cannot cease to exist, and it will always have a monarch since there will always be a male heir to succeed the throne, and no actions by anybody - including the family themselves - can prevent this from happening. However, the head of the Nishifubet family is not necessarily the leader of their nation - they are Emperor, and in title are the leader, but all those living in Nishifubet are stricken by a great jealousy and the one with the greatest military might in the nation who can fight for their claim to leadership may, and be titled Shogun.

In the year 995 (5001-f), a boy was born to Tanuma and Neviya Kobaspera and named was Icarus. Abuse from his father, as well as Tanuma’s fanatical devotion to an upcoming candidate for the title of Shogun known as Ishishudo Tayaduri, broke his family apart.

Despite Icarus’ attempt to fly away and break free of his father, Fethesi was already in effect, and the greatest enemy to peace the world had seen had already begun to be forged in fires. Afilisaka - named for a phenomenon in Nishifubetu where flammable gases in the air conflagrate, causing great flares to streak across the sky at night.

From my notes here is a timeline of Icarus’ journey up to seventeen years old.

Mid 1003

When Icarus was eight, tensions within Nishifubet began to rise as in the south and it was believed that another civil war would break out.
A new candidate for Shogun appeared not too far from Icarus’ hometown, Ishishudo Tayaduri and many in his hometown – including his father – voiced support for his campaign based on neglect towards their region by the emperor.

Also around this time, his father’s abuse towards his mother grew to a new extreme, culminating when one day a man came knocking at their door. Suspicious of potential agents from the Emperor, Tanuma tried to send the man away, but the man invited himself in anyway, stating that he was Michizoe Tanzara of the Chandrel aur Then. He inquired about Neviya’s injuries to which Tanuma forcefully tried to remove Michizoe from the house. Michizoe retreated only after Tanuma drew a knife. That evening, Tanuma beat both Neviya and Icarus, believing that they were connected to Michizoe. Two weeks later, Neviya disappeared, having left for the Chandrel.

From around here, Tanuma forced Icarus into long hours of strenuous training, trying to forge him into his ideal warrior for the upcoming shogun’s army – believing this would bring him a good standing with a new shogun.

Early 1008

Icarus grew a great resentment towards his father and Ishishudo Tayaduri, along with all his followers. He suffered greatly through the five years without his mother and grew to hate her as well for leaving him alone with Tanuma.

One evening in early 1008 shortly after the outbreak of the Seventieth Shogun’s Campaign (Ishishudo Tayaduri’s Campaign), Icarus killed Tanuma using his Karasumaku and fled.

Mid 1008

Icarus fled south and eventually arrived at a small coastal shipbuilding town called Manuak where he met a man called Urika Tokera who owned a yard working on timber for ships. Icarus disliked being subject to somebody else, but enjoyed the work, and got warm meals, shelter and pay in return.

Early 1010

Icarus lived and worked with Urika for a year and a half, peacefully and safely until the war grew closer to the coast.
Supporters of Tayaduri had arrived, and a skirmish between the local Emperor supporters and Tayaduri’s army broke out in Manuak, with Tayaduri’s forces winning. Amongst them was an old friend of his father’s Alaka Banadura, who recognised Icarus, having believed the boy dead or kidnapped after his father was murdered.
Eventually Alaka pieced together, based on Icarus’ reaction to him and refusal to provide details about how he survived that night, pieced together that Icarus was the one who killed his father and in the night came with three other soldiers to where he was staying with Urika.

Using a hatchet, Icarus attacked and killed all four of them, along with Urika who heard the fighting and saw Icarus murder the soldiers. He then fled Manuak, heading north.

Early 1011

For a few months, Icarus travelled through towns across the south-west of Nishifubet along the coastline, staying ahead of the war in the southern parts of the country, using the money he earnt from Urika to pay for food and shelter along the way.

Mid 1011

Icarus arrived at a town in what soon became Koroe called Kalitsu. There he met a girl his age called Reichera Sanabet who was working as waitress in a large tavern called the Nemekasur Manadri to help support her family. She talks with Icarus who introduces himself as Icarus Afilisaka, but admits his real name is Kobaspera after she pushes. The two get along and Reichera offers to ask her father if he could work as a mason with him for a while. Icarus is hesitant and wants to continue travelling, but takes a liking to Reichera and eventually agrees. He and her grow very close, and although Icarus wants to continue travelling, fearing that eventually the war would arrive, his feelings for Reichera keep him in Kalitsu.

For the first six months or so, their relationship is fine although there are some moments of tension - Icarus refuses to tell Reichera about his past and also dislikes Reichera’s belief and prayer to the Gods. He also at many points wishes to leave, afraid of what he’s done catching up to him. His love for Reichera keeps him from leaving however, and leaves him with a growing paranoia.

Late 1011

Seven months into their relationship Icarus and Reichera begin to argue more often. More news from the war arrives and it is clear political tensions in the region grow stronger with talks about western parts of Nishifubet seceding. Icarus grows distant and colder towards Reichera - scared about her finding out about his past, scared of her attachment, and increasingly paranoid - often only talking to her to demand something. One evening during an argument, Icarus hit Reichera - reminding himself of his father. He fled into the night with some food he stole from her house, his father’s Karasumaku, his money and the clothes on his back. He travelled further west, crossing over at the Four Bridges as the year came to its close.

Early 1012

While travelling southwest and low on food, Icarus found a temple and that evening broke into it, killing two temple guards and stealing bread, wine and fruit.

A week later, Icarus came across a small valley of dark rock near the westernmost border where he rested for the evening. In the morning he awoke and explored the valley. As he did so, he began to see the air ripple with a great network of pale strings, entangled in the air and culminating in a large web that hung over a cliff, where some sort of monument was carved into the face, although Icarus could not tell what it was depicting. Reaching into the web, Icarus grasped a sharp object, pulling out a small, pointed rock of a greenish-blue hue. The world went dark - and Icarus collapsed beneath the cliff.
