Bit of a bonus for y’all (it’s 11:44 PM at the time I’m writing this); figured I’d try to make concepts for potential side bosses. These would be fought at Arenas or Dojos depending on the settlement they’re found in, and would also serve as the source of boss loot (since I don’t exactly know if I want story bosses to be repeatable or have drops).
I really hope none of y’all are gun nerds, or embrace the power of a search engine for his name. This guy is supposed to be an early boss, with not a lot going for him to keep his difficulty where it should be at.
Y’all can laugh at the name, for real. If you ever enter a “Bad at Naming Characters” contest and I’m in it, say your prayers.
This little critter is more of a “for loot” type of boss, since his entire gimmick is dropping what may as well be Charged or Hasty Scrolls from a completely* different game. I’ve toyed with the idea of making the Substat Bracelets he drops be useful for the entire game, but if I did that, I’d have to bump his level up drastically, since I don’t think I want armor to be upgradeable beyond basic enchantments. Upgradeable armor in AO is functionally a money sink that you can just wait out anyway, at least when you’re leveling up a new file.
Also Jade doesn’t have Spells listed because I don’t have a Doc for Iridescence or Crystal Magic yet. Same with Light, because I actually forgot to add it to my Source Magics folder.
i just realised that if i reversed this to get the Dark and Twisted Evil Fucked up Character™ i’d end up with flora, darkness, fungus, thunder, and soot, and i just think it’s funny that speed and fungus end up being counterparts cause like
imagine wally west vs a mushroom
Yes, I made the starting town’s name be a f*cking word. I like the idea of armor being available for winning town tournaments, since getting through anything past the first fight would (seemingly) be hell on earth.
Been trying to lock in on the Source Magic Spell lists, but it turns out thinking of spells for a Magic whose gimmick is “become laser” is harder than I thought.
Gilgamesh, Consumer of Reality vs Maurice Don’t post that image here please im afraid of spiders
I might make the Poll Post to end all Poll Posts after I show off finished forms of each Source Magic type and Weapon, because I’m really curious about what builds y’all would run. What Species? What Base Magic? What Weapon/Skill?
Yeah. One of the strays she managed to catch scratched her while we were trying to give him ear mite medicine, and she’s been feeling dizzy since then. We all doubt it’s Rabies, since the cat himself hasn’t been showing any symptoms.
your writing has somehow taken over my mind so much that i have multiple character/build ideas for it and i literally have no idea how you’ve managed to force me to create oc’s for this
the second main one is an earth, thunder, fulgurite, flora, and moss user with a spear. i haven’t decided on their species yet since i don’t know if i’ll make them something other than human, i usually just imagine them as an average height guy with short hair and brown skin
actually i wonder if i might swap water and ripple for darkness and chill since i found a way to understand it now
which also means the fungus one would swap thunder and soot for light and megaflora
Currently inflicted with “Locked In;” planning to get all Source Magic spells done by Sunday, since I’ll be banished to Arkansas for a week starting around Tuesday. So far, I’ve gotten almost all of Darkness Magic’s spells figured out; looked at the Water Magic doc for a reference on a couple of spells, and I’ll probably end up reworking some of it.
Speaking of Weapons, I should probably go over how I want them to work.
WEAPONS (Yippee in G-major)
Weapons can either be bought at Blacksmiths (every Town should have one), or in Chests.
Chests can contain any Weapon Type regardless of location, while Blacksmiths may only sell a few Types depending on their Location and Culture.
Weapons can only have one Skill equipped at a time. To change Skills, either visit a Blacksmith or receive some sort of item that lets you change them on the go.
To attempt to use a Weapon Skill, press either G or F (whichever one isn’t bound to a Spell) right as a bullet hits you.
The act of using a Weapon Skill successfully is called a Parry. If you’re too early, you take a hit like normal. If you’re too late, you look like a professional idiot.
WEAPON STATS
Damage Modifier - Determines how much Damage a Weapon Skill can inflict; used to determine total damage after Species Damage Modifier, but before Potion Damage Modifier.
Attack Speed Modifier - Determines how fast a Weapon’s Skill is between Startlag and Endlag (Hitbox time, in other words), as well as the number of Frames the Player has to Parry. On Ranged Weapons, such as Rifles, it will also determine how fast a projectile is.
Attack Size Modifier - Determines the size of a Weapon Skill’s Hitbox.
Blocking Modifier - Determines how much damage is negated on a successful Parry.
Starting to think I won’t be able to get all of the Source Magic types done by tonight, so here’s Earth Magic. It was surprisingly easy to think of spells for this one, compared to the hell that was Darkness Magic.
Blaze Magic being able to expand itself is actually an idea I wanted to use for Fire Magic earlier on, but the idea was a little too out-there for what’s supposed to be a basic Magic type. Same goes for its visuals changing with your Spell Tiers.
No, I do not want to spend five nights in a bed that’s not my own while a guy who opted to spend $100+ dollars on Monopoly Go instead of a car payment is in the same building (no, I’m NOT joking). And no, I don’t want to spend my time awake either with my extended family (who are generally kind of crazy) or dying in the heat outside.
Actually, I don’t like the concept of traveling in general. It’s a process to get it going, you just look around wherever you end up for too many days, and then there’s a process of getting back home; if it’s just the people you know, Great! That makes it somewhat tolerable. If there’s people you see about three times a year, FUCK! You have to act like you know them like the rest of your family, even though you don’t.
Either it’s something that people pretend to like, or it’s something that I can’t really understand with the power of my brain wired in a way that gets the unwanted attention of some American dude. iykyk
Anyway, I might update y’all on stuff I’m forced into doing in this thread, or share some ideas I come up with. While I’m not doing that, here’s some of my older ideas, like a World of Magic remake. Sure, I’m not going to pursue them until the concept I’ve been working on has been developed and released, but it’s fun to look back on them.
I know this is basically the only update in the Arkansas Arc, but I want to know what y’all think of adding some weapon types as clones of pre-existing ones.
Could range from some Weapons being full clones, such as a Katana being a Sword with slightly different stats, to some weapons being hybrids, such as Bisentos being able to use two skills from Swords and Spears. The main reason I thought of doing that was because of me having trouble thinking of unique skills for some weapons and because of some people really liking weapons that are like currently-existing ones.
Add Clones of Currently Confirmed Weapons?
Yes!
No!

Here’s the post where y’all asked for weapons like the Bisento btw
