What I think about the PVP toggle 🐬

So, I saw the message in the Discord about the PVP toggle and thought I might as well do what was suggested in it and post my thoughts here :rabbit:. I think that the PVP toggle is a step in the right direction but not much more, having PVP toggleable makes sense; people like playing the PVE in this game and don’t like getting needlessly murdered, but I feel like in it’s current state the PVP toggle isn’t going to exactly accomplish it’s job. I agree with disabling it for people over that fame threshold; I may even say lowering it to like, 200,000 might be the better play, THIS SAID…

I think it’s a little dumb that you won’t be able to toggle PVP while being in a clan. Many clans focus on PVE and community; not just fighting other clans to the death, while this may or may not have been the intended purpose of clans; this definitely adds a fork in the cog where people currently in clans that like to entertain PVE content rather then PVP content are in a pickle; being that they can’t toggle PVP unless they leave the clan, causing them to engage with less of the game and plug themself behind a door with a chair blocking it. But then again; I can get this because of how island claiming works in the first place, so what might a solution to this be? I personally think that it might work to give clans an option between being ā€œPVEā€ or ā€œPVPā€ where if it’s PVE it’s put in clanless servers as one would expect, and has heavy limits put on how influence gains work. [For example, you wouldn’t be able to get influence from murdering other players] in exchange for not having faults for failing in combat with other players. For claiming islands; perchance it could work in a way where if you are on an island you’ve claimed while someone else is trying to claim it, both get PVP turned on by force.

With all of that said; it doesn’t fix what I believe to be the biggest issue with the PVP toggle, which is that it’ll become a right pain for some PVP players to find other PVP players, specifically with the change I proposed above. Which makes me think, why not just make PVP be a character by character ā€œtoggleā€ where it’s set to your ā€œpreferredā€; and whichever your ā€œpreferredā€ is will become your default and what servers you join. ā€œHang on, servers you tend to join?ā€ you may be asking; why not make it so that instead of clan and non clan servers, we have PVP and PVP off servers?

Anyways, that’s enough of the bad stuff; what about what’s actually cool about this :lizard:

Well first of all, it’s great that people will somehow be able to toggle PVP, speaking as a PVE player; I want nothing to do with anyone fighting around me, I honestly just want to vibe and do my PVE stuff, not be jumped by every other person on the face of the earth. Even if it’s so extremely limited; it’s nice to just… not have to fight other people, just play the game how we want to play it you know?
Second of all; I think it has potential to help PVPing players as the announcement said. Now less people will enter in to a fight just for their opponent to either run away or log, or maybe even both. People will now enter in to a fight usually knowing that their opponent also wants to fight, they might run away but if they do it will be strategic reason rather then ā€œI JUST WANNA FIGHT THE NPC’S GOD DANG IT!!!ā€. This should; hopefully, improve their experience as well.
One final thing to note that I think is really cool about this change is that it will make the game more palatable to new players. I have tried to get my friends in to the game quite a few times, but they keep quitting when they get to about level 50 in part because they enter combat with other players when they really don’t want to, and end up just not enjoying themself afterwards; constantly worrying that they’re going to get jumped and not be able to focus on what they want to focus on; which at this time is leveling and gearing up.

Thank you to anyone who red even a fraction of this yap; if you have any takes on my takes feel free to share them :cat:

I’m quite new to this fourm website and just noticed that there’s a few formatting errors that weren’t supposed to be there, can’t quite figure out how to fix them though, sorry if it makes it difficult for any of you to read :sob:
